When we talk about India’s best-selling SUVs, the Hyundai Creta is one of the names that emerge in the list. However, after dominating the Indian market for a long time, the Creta has lost its place among the Top 5 Best-Selling SUVs! No, that does not indicate the failure of the Creta, but rather the success of two newly launched SUVs. So, which SUVs have probably hurt the Creta?

The First Blow

The year 2025 was a thriller for the Indian car market. Not only did we see multiple new launches, but the sales were also boosted. The GST 2.0 helped automakers cut car prices, enabling them to set new sales records. Even the Creta benefited from the GST 2.0 reform, helping it emerge as the best-selling SUV of 2025! However, as the year ended, the Creta suffered some loss in terms of sales, thanks to the newly launched SUVs!

Now, although it is too early to judge Creta’s low sales, we cannot ignore the fact that it happened just after the most anticipated launch of the Tata Sierra! In November 2025, Tata reintroduced the most iconic brand – the Sierra and the SUV created a lot of buzz amongst interested buyers. So much so that the brand received more than 70,000 bookings on the day it began accepting them. In fact, Tata Motors also confirmed that more than 1.5 lakh buyers have already finalised their configurations and are now waiting for the cars to be delivered. All of this happened in the first week after bookings opened on the 16th of December 2025. That said, it is highly possible that a majority of Creta buyers have also shown interest in the Tata Sierra! But is it the Sierra alone that disturbed the sales of the Hyundai Creta?

The Second Blow – Hyundai Creta Sales

Another SUV that has likely impacted Hyundai Creta sales is the new-gen Kia Seltos! The Creta sister was recently launched in a new avatar and is better than the Creta in every way. Being a fresh model, the new-gen Seltos is longer than the Creta, has a longer wheelbase, gets more features, and has a head-turning design language. Also, the Seltos has always shared its powertrains with the Creta, which in itself are bulletproof in terms of reliability. Having said that, Kia has yet to reveal any data regarding the bookings it has received for the new-gen Seltos. However, the fact that the Seltos is just a sportier version of the Creta, we cannot deny the fact that buyers could have also shown interest in the Kia SUV!

All in all, the new-gen Kia Seltos and especially the Tata Sierra have definitely created a lot of buzz in the mid-size SUV segment. On the other hand, it is too early to judge the Creta’s falling sales. We will get clarity only after a couple of months, once the Sierra & the Seltos settle in the Indian car market.
