Hyundai Creta Facelift – What to Expect? » MotorOctane

The Hyundai Creta has been a fan favourite for quite some time now. An abundance of powertrain options and impressive looks are just a few of the factors responsible for its success. It has been one of the pioneers in the mid-sized SUV segment, and Hyundai keep updating the Creta to keep it fresh. It received minor revisions in 2018 and thorough changes in 2020 and 2024. Now, Hyundai has started the development of the next-gen Creta, codenamed SX3, and here is all you need to know about it.

Possible Changes with the Platform

Creta’s performance in the NCAP tests was relatively modest, with a score of 3 stars. Its competitors have fared better in these safety tests, and Hyundai will look to make key changes to improve these ratings. The updated platform will also be used in the upcoming Alcazar and the Creta EV.

Creta will continue to be offered solely as a front-wheel-drive vehicle, and there are no reports of an AWD version under development.

Recently, a camouflaged Kia Seltos, which shares its platform with the Creta, was spotted. The Seltos has grown considerably in size, indicating a similar change in the Creta as well. A greater size implies that the cabin space will see a noticeable improvement. The increase in size may also result in bigger 19″ wheels.

Other Key Changes

The outgoing Creta offers an impressive feature list, arguably the best in the segment. Some potential additions could be wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a larger infotainment screen and rear ventilated seats. Minor tweaks to the ADAS could also be implemented.

One of its competitors, the Tata Curvv, is equipped with unique rear seats, called R-comfort seats, that provide passive ventilation. This technology works on the principle of proper air circulation. The rear seats feature small perforations and airflow channels that provide thorough ventilation and maximum comfort for rear passengers. The Hyundai Creta could take inspiration from Tata’s system or use rear ventilation seats that use electric fans for ventilation.

The spy shots of the Kia Seltos have given us a deeper look at what the next Creta may offer. The Seltos was spotted with 6 front parking sensors, including a side parking sensor, indicating an AutoPark feature, which is unheard of in this segment. The cabin would feature a gear-selector knob, which would be considered an upgrade over the current setup.

Hyundai has kept the facelift’s developments under wraps, but vast cosmetic changes are expected. We are yet to catch a glimpse of Hyundai’s next-generation design language.

Powertrain Options

The next generation of Creta will likely be offered with identical powertrain options, including a 1.5L petrol, a 1.5L Diesel, and a potent 1.5L turbo-Petrol capable of producing more than 160 horsepower. No changes to the transmission options will be made either. You can take your pick from a 6-speed DCT, a Torque Convertor unit, a CVT and a 6-speed manual.

Hyundai will work to improve the Creta EV’s battery range and reduce charging times. To complement the EV and hybrid options, Hyundai plans to introduce a hybrid variant of the Creta. The strong-hybrid powertrain will be mated to the naturally aspirated 1.5L petrol engine. Such a move shows Hyundai’s intention to shift away from ICE engines gradually.

Rivals

Creta faces severe competition in the mid-sized segment from fellow Korean manufacturers Kia, Maruti Suzuki, Tata, and Mahindra. The Creta faces the likes of the Volkswagen Taigun, Tata Curvv, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Honda Elevate, and the Kia Seltos. Most of the abovementioned cars undergo frequent revisions to keep their aesthetics fresh. Hyundai India will need to up its game to take the top spot in best-selling C-segment SUVs.
