Honda Expands Production Capacity at Tapukara Factory in Rajasthan

Honda has installed a new third line at its Tapukara plant which will begin operations in 2028 with annual capacity of 6.70 lakh units

Honda 2-Wheelers India has expanded its production capacity by installing a new third line at its Tapukara plant in Alwar District, Rajasthan. Slated to begin operations in 2028, it will have an annual capacity of 6.70 lakh units. The overall production capacity of the Tapukara factory will reach to 2.01 million units per year with the opening of the third line. Besides the boost in production capacity, it will also generate employment opportunities for over 2,000 people in the region.

The third production line at Tapukara facility in Alwar involves a total investment of approximately Rs 15 billion. It will manufacture commuter models of scooters and motorcycles. Honda will acquire 73,700 m² of land at Tapukara including this third line and additional planned expansions at other plants, HMSI’s overall annual production capacity will increase from the current 6.25 million units to approximately 8 million units by FY2028.

The Japanese two-wheeler brand has four manufacturing plants across India with annual production capacity of 6.25 million units. The company begun sales operations nearly 25 years back in 2001 in the Indian market and has rolled out 70 million units so far. Honda will also add a fourth production line at its Vithalapur plant in Ahmedabad district, Gujarat. It is likely to start operations by next year.

Honda’s second production facility commenced operations in July 2011 with an annual capacity of 0.6 million units, which was increased to 1.2 million units in March 2012. Nearly three years back in 2023, it introduced automation in machining and production efficiency technologies, and the current annual capacity stands at 1.3 million units. The production is likely to reach 1.34 million units by FY2026.

Honda also has plans to develop a dedicated production line for electric two-wheelers at its Narsapura factory in Karnataka. It is being readied for an annual production capacity of 1 million units by 2030. The Narsapura facility will be used for the production of electric scooters and motorcycles. The dedicated production line is likely to begin operations from 2028.
