Volkswagen Touareg

Before the Taigun, Tiguan, and other SUVs came the Touareg. This was Volkswagen’s first 7-seater in India, but very few people knew about it. We have found this 2013 Touareg on sale for Rs 10.75 lakh.
For a 13-year-old car, it has a decent equipment list. This list includes air suspension, a 7-inch MFD, leatherette upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, 14-way powered front seats, an 8-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity, etc. It also got adaptive cruise control, but we are not sure whether the owner opted for the optional pack. To make things better, it is powered by a V6 TDI (236 bhp & 550 Nm) mated to an 8-speed AT and VW’s 4Motion drivetrain.

Chevrolet Trailblazer

When you think about Chevrolet SUVs, the Tavera is the first thing that pops into your mind. As a result, the more premium Chevrolet Trailblazer gets forgotten. It was launched in 2015 and was on sale for a very brief period. The Trailblazer is pretty rare to come by, but we have found this 2015 unit on sale for Rs 11.5 lakh.
It gets features like a reverse parking camera, electrically adjustable ORVMs, a touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity, leatherette seats, and, more importantly, 3 rows of seating. While the feature list may not seem all that impressive, it does get a powerful 2.8-litre diesel (197 bhp & 500Nm) mated to a 6-speed AT. If you are wishing for a rare SUV, it does not get rare than this.

Ford Endeavour

This is the highlight of the list, the Ford Endeavour. This is one of the few SUVs that gave the Fortuner a run for its money. Due to Ford’s exit from the Indian market, it has depreciated at a higher rate than its Japanese rival, and you can reap the benefits. We have found this 2016 model on sale for a mere Rs 14 lakh.
The Endeavour gets features like front parking sensors, a rear parking camera, a powered tailgate, cruise control, a panoramic sunroof, a touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity, etc. But who are we kidding? If you buy the Endeavour, it definitely won’t be for its features. You buy it for the road presence and the 3.2-litre diesel (197 bhp & 470 Nm). This engine is mated to a 6-speed AT and a 4WD drivetrain. As far as Fortuner rivals are concerned, it does not get better than this.

Mitsubishi Montero

You must already know about the Pajero, but do you know about the Montero? It was a major step-up from the rather contemporary Pajero. And the Montero came with a Dakar rally pedigree as well. Despite its rarity, we have managed to find a 2007 Montero. This example has a price tag of Rs 6 lakh. Why get a Maruti Alto when you can buy this for the same price instead?
Expectedly, the Montero’s feature list is outdated and misses out on amenities like a touchscreen, sunroof, etc. But you do get luxuries like powered windows and automatic climate control. The main highlight of the Montero is the 3.2-litre diesel (200 bhp & 441Nm) mated to an AT gearbox and a 4WD.

Important Thing To Note
These cars may seem enticing to you at first glance. But don’t hop on the bandwagon just yet. Most of these cars may be relatively reliable, but that does not mean that they are cheap to maintain. The spares and service costs are pretty expensive. That is why, before making a concrete offer, get the car checked by a trusted mechanic.
At the end of the day, it’s a gamble. Only fate can decide whether you win big or lose everything. But as a safety net, keep aside Rs 3-4 lakh for repairs. If you do this step, you would have to worry a bit less.
