7-seater SUVs sound like the perfect cars for India. You get immense practicality along with go-anywhere abilities. And if the car has AWD and premium interiors, this deal could not get any sweeter. One such SUV has been recently launched and has created quite a buzz in the market. But before you buy into this hype, here is something that you should know.

New VW SUV!

Volkswagen is synonymous with no-nonsense premium cars, and its brand value will always be high in India. But surprisingly, its 5-seater SUVs have never caught on in the Indian market. The Taigun was a success in its early years, but sales have since dried up. The T-Roc and the Tiguan are some other examples. The same case can be said for its 7-seater SUVs, like the Tiguan Allspace and the Touareg (yes, it was sold in India). And VW are trying to change this with the new Tayron R-Line
VW recently launched the Tayron R-Line. It has been launched at a price of Rs 56.08 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), which means that it would compete with the the higher-variants of the Fortuner and the top variant of the Kodiaq. But what if this pricing exceeds your budget?

New VW SUV Variant – Cheaper Tayron Coming?

Keep in mind that the R-Line is Volkswagen’s top variant. And the Tayron has been launched directly with the top trim. Currently, you can only get the Tayron in the sport R-line trim, and there are no cheaper variants to choose from. This could change soon.
Rumours suggest that the Tayron could be launched with more variants soon. With new, lower variants, the Tayron will become more accessible than ever and will be a value-for-money alternative to the fabled Fortuner or its cousin, the Skoda Kodiaq. And with lower pricing, expect the feature list to see a cut down as well. At the moment, just one lower variant is expected. To find out what would change with this new variant, let us take a look at the lower-spec Tayron, which is sold in global markets.

What’s Changing?

The biggest change would be in the aesthetics. The R-Line gets many sporty touches, like blacked-out elements and a glowing-red VW badge, which would be missing on a lower-spec model. The front bumper will also get a minor revision. Furthermore, the colour options would be slimmer, and we expect the popular Ultra Violet Metallic colour to be omitted. Moreover, smaller 18-inch alloys are expected to be offered.
With the R-line, you get features like Level-2 ADAS, panoramic sunroof, 15-inch infotainment screen, 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, powered front seats with ventilated and massage functions, 9-airbags and much more.
On the lower spec, we could see a smaller 12.9-inch infotainment display and dual-tone interiors. Overall, it will still include many important features but could miss out on massaging front seats, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, and leatherette seats.
Things won’t change in the engine bay, and the same 2.0-litre TSI (202bhp & 320Nm) is expected to be offered with the lower trim. Similarly, the same 7-speed gearbox will come as standard. However, we could see the AWD drivetrain being excluded.

New VW SUV Variant – Expected Pricing

The price is the main factor for bringing a lower variant. VW’s flagship SUV would become more accessible to the public and would most certainly boost its sales. We expect the lower-trim to be priced around Rs 48-52 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). VW could launch it at a lower or higher price, but it is entirely reliant on the features it offers at launch.
