Compact 7-seaters – Not Practical Enough

To keep the cost low, manufacturers certainly do one thing! Cost cutting, this includes cutting down on features and tech (which is kind of okay) but also the cut in size! Yes, the 7-seaters which usually is seen to be a big vehicle – has been cut short to fit in the sub-4m segment. For starters, cars like Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Skoda Kylaq and others are sub-4m compact SUVs.

Who wants that cramped feeling, while going on a long ride? Many sub-4m SUVs sometimes aren’t even comfortable for 5 passengers. Whereas, the car makers are offering a 7-seater setup in a car meant to be better for 5 passengers really makes it cramped up. The third row seats are just there for the namesake or only for kids – while the adults will not be able to sit for even a short time.

Now even the automakers know that this configuration won’t be practical for long runs. So, they came up with the idea of removing 3rd row seats! Which kills the purpose, and makes it just like the other 5-seater SUVs. The whole meaning of MPVs is to offer a better space for comfortably seating the passengers, while in this case, this whole thing gets ruled out. You can get a good storage space after removing the third row seats, which can be a good point, but still you are carrying only 5 members (including the driver).

Apart from that, the idea to make it cost affordable also makes these vehicles lose out on some good tech features. It makes it another normal vehicle on wheels, and there isn’t any advanced stuff too. That said, a compact 7-seater car doesn’t make a good sense to put your money on – instead you can buy some other compact SUVs or 7-seater’s like the Ertiga that can serve your purpose well.
