1. Maruti Suzuki – Best-Selling Car Brands March 2026

Maruti Suzuki remains the clear market leader in India. The company recorded 1,66,219 units sold in March and closed the financial year with a massive 24,22,713 units sold. Its dominance stems from a wide portfolio covering hatchbacks, sedans, MPVs and SUVs. The brand continues to dominate the entry- and mid-level segments with popular models such as the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Swift, Baleno, and Brezza.
Among these, the Dzire has been one of the best-selling cars in the country, thanks to its reliability, fuel efficiency, and strong demand from fleets. Their dealership and service network also continue to give the company a strong edge over competitors. Maruti Suzuki is also expanding its SUV lineup while investing heavily in hybrid and CNG technologies, which will likely strengthen its market position in the upcoming years.

Tata Motors sold 66,192 units in March and, cumulatively, 6,41,587 units for FY2026. The brand has built a strong portfolio that spans across multiple fuel technologies, including petrol, diesel, CNG and electric vehicles. The Nexon remains the company’s biggest volume driver and one of the most popular SUVs in India. The Tata Punch has also been a massive success in the entry-level SUV segment. Hatchbacks like the Tata Tiago continue to attract budget buyers. However, premium SUVs such as the Tata Safari and the Tata Harrier strengthen the brand’s presence in the premium segments.
Tata Motors also maintains a strong lead in India’s electric vehicle market, with models such as the Tata Nexon EV and Tata Tiago EV contributing to its leadership.
3. Mahindra – Best-Selling Car Brands March 2026

Mahindra & Mahindra has emerged as one of the biggest success stories in FY2026. They sold 60,272 vehicles in March 2026, finishing the financial year with 6,60,276 units. Their strategy of focusing heavily on SUVs and lifestyle vehicles has clearly worked in their favour. The Mahindra Scorpio-N and Mahindra Scorpio Classic continue to enjoy strong demand, often having waiting periods of several months. In their lineup, the XUV700, now the XUV 7XO, remains one of the most popular premium SUVs in India, offering advanced features and powerful engine options. The Mahindra 3XO has strengthened its grip in the compact SUV segment. Lifestyle models like the Mahindra Thar continue to attract buyers seeking rugged, off-road-capable vehicles.

Despite a decline in rankings, Hyundai remains one of the strongest International brands in India. The Hyundai Creta continues to dominate the Mid-size SUV segment and remains Hyundai’s biggest volume driver.
Models such as the Venue and the Exter helped the brand stay strong in the compact SUV space. The Hyundai Verna remains one of the most feature-rich sedans in the segment. Hyundai is expected to strengthen its lineup with new SUVs and electric vehicles in the coming years as part of a planned strategy to regain momentum for the brand.
5. Toyota – Best-Selling Car Brands March 2026

Toyota Kirloskar Motor secured the fifth position in the Indian market, selling 35,125 units in March 2026 and closing FY 2026 with 4,06,081 units. The growth has been supported by its partnership with Maruti Suzuki, which has helped the brand expand its product lineup.
Models like the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Toyota Glanza have contributed significantly to the brand’s volume growth. At the same time, premium models such as the Toyota Innova Hycross and Toyota Fortuner continue to have strong demand in the Indian market.
FY2026 has proven to be a turning point for the Indian car industry. While Maruti Suzuki remains firmly ahead of the competition, the real shift has occurred among the brands that followed. Indian manufacturers Mahindra and Tata Motors have greatly strengthened their market positions, even overtaking Hyundai in annual sales rankings. The SUV demand and electrification gained traction for several brands.
