Scorpio N Vs Thar Roxx – Design and Road Presence
The Thar Roxx gained popularity through the massive success of the Thar since its launch in October 2020, which created huge hype among individuals. Following this momentum, the Thar Roxx launched in August 2024, achieving an impressive milestone of 1.76 lakh bookings within just one hour. Compared to regular Thar, the Thar Roxx is more practical, comfortable, stable, and premium.
Scorpio N also benefits from its brand value, and the Scorpio nameplate has built its reputation for more than 10 years; its craze and trend among the youth are humongous. Scorpio N carries a more traditional SUV design with a boxy design, muscular looks and strong road presence. In terms of size, it’s larger and wider than Thar Roxx, whereas Thar Roxx is taller and has a longer wheelbase, which provides more cabin space and stability.
Engine and Performance
Interestingly, both SUVs share Mahindra’s powerful petrol and diesel engines.
- Petrol: 2.0-litre turbocharged engine
- Diesel: 2.2-litre mHawk engine
In all petrol and diesel variants, the Scorpio-N generates slightly more torque than the Thar Roxx. The Thar Roxx diesel produces 330 Nm (MT) and up to 370 Nm (AT), whereas the Scorpio-N diesel produces 370 Nm (MT) and 400 Nm (AT). The Scorpio-N manual produces 370 Nm, which is a bit more than the Thar Roxx manual’s 330 Nm, although both SUVs’ automatic models produce 380 Nm.
Both SUVs offer manual and automatic gearboxes, and diesel variants come with 4×4 capability on higher trims. The Thar Roxx, however, leans more toward off-road performance, and that’s not just a marketing claim. It inherits its DNA directly from the original Thar, comes with a ladder-frame-inspired setup, higher ground clearance and suspension travel that are clearly made for rough terrain.
The Scorpio-N, on the other hand, strikes a more balanced tone. Its suspension is set up to absorb highway undulations comfortably, the steering feels more planted at higher speeds, and the overall ride quality is calibrated for someone who goes on highway runs and the occasional off-road adventure.

Scorpio N Vs Thar Roxx – Features and Interior
The Thar Roxx standout features include dual 10.25-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation, and a panoramic sunroof that the Scorpio-N doesn’t offer. It attracts younger, urban buyers.
The Scorpio-N fights back where it matters most for family space and practicality. The three-row seating gives it a clear edge for larger households. At the same time, dual-zone climate control on higher variants makes it both more comfortable.
That said, both SUVs share ADAS Level-2, leatherette upholstery and ventilated seats for those brutal summer drives, on their higher trims, so on the safety and comfort front.
Off-Road Capability
If your priority is off-roading along with daily usability, then Thar Roxx clearly has an edge. It offers better approach and departure angles and a water-wading capacity of around 650 mm, which is higher than the Scorpio-N’s 500 mm capability. This makes the Thar Roxx a more capable choice for adventure and off-road enthusiasts.
If you need a bulky-looking SUV with strong road presence and occasional off-road capability, and a family-oriented vehicle for long drives, then you should consider the Scorpio N.

Scorpio N Vs Thar Roxx – Pricing
The Thar Roxx is priced between Rs 14.91-27.18 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), while the Scorpio-N sits slightly higher at Rs 16.2-29.68 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). That’s roughly a Rs 1.3-2.5 lakh premium for the Scorpio-N, depending on the variant you pick.
Is it justified? Yes, the Scorpio-N’s three-row seating, larger dimensions, and dual-zone climate control do make sense for that extra spend when your family needs the additional space. However, if you’re a younger buyer who prioritises a panoramic sunroof and a more lifestyle-oriented package, the Thar Roxx no doubt offers better value for money at its price point.
