Mercedes-Benz

The German automaker has already confirmed that this deal won’t cause any drastic changes to its lineup. Mercedes-Benz already has an enormous manufacturing plant in Pune, and most models are built there. These popular cars won’t be seeing any major change in prices –

  • C-Class
  • E-Class
  • S-Class
  • Maybach S580
  • AMG C43
  • All EQ models
  • GLE
  • GLC
  • GLS

This list includes all the best-selling models, and their prices will see little to no change. This deal only affects the AMG performance, Maybach S680, CLE, and SL, which have significantly lower demand than the aforementioned models and will cost over Rs 1 crore even after the tax leeway.

Audi completes the trifecta of German luxury cars, but unfortunately, its models suffer the same fate as those of the other 2 automakers. Its RS models and the Q8 are the only ones that will benefit from this deal. The following cars remain unaffected by the FTA –

Land Rover

Now you might be wondering why we included a British brand in this list. Many people do not know that JLR have a manufacturing plant in Slovakia (central Europe), which makes the British brand eligible for this leeway. However, only 2 SUVs, the Defender and Discovery, can take advantage of the FTA. The following cars will receive little to no price change –

  • Discovery Sport
  • Range Rover
  • Range Rover Sport
  • Range Rover Velar
  • Range Rover Evoque

Porsche

While all Porsche cars are CBU imports, the FTA explicitly excludes EVs from this tariff cut. Which means that these cars won’t be getting any cheaper –

  • Taycan
  • Maycan Electric
  • Cayenne Electric

Future of European cars in India

Don’t be demotivated if your dream car appeared on this list. The primary goal of this deal was to motivate European automakers to bring new, innovative products to India with minimal risk. This deal is a particularly brilliant deal for those who missed out on the first batch of Skoda Octavia Rs and the Volkswagen Golf GTi, since the next batch will be offered at a more attractive price.

Furthermore, the news is mostly positive for those who desire a high-performance vehicle. At the moment, all sports cars and high-performance SUVs are CBU units, and when the tax is cut down to 10%, you will see a price drop of not lakhs, but crores, on some exquisite European cars. Owning an exotic Italian, a Porsche 911, or a Land Rover Defender has never been more accessible.
