New Gen Kia Sonet – What’s New?

We have already revealed several details about the upcoming update to the Kia Sonet. This upcoming model is expected to undergo several changes inside and out. The model has already been spotted with a new grille and an elongated design, suggesting that this update won’t be a dramatic cosmetic upgrade but something real. We also expect the model to get a revised headlamp and taillamp setup with integrated DRLs. 

Apart from that, the spy shots suggested that the updated model will be longer than the outgoing one. The same treatment that we saw with the new-gen Hyundai Venue, as it was moved from the K2 platform to the K1 platform. A similar thing is expected to be done with the Sonet as well. With the changes in underpinnings, even after several changes, Kia would keep the prices competitive for the new Sonet.

Talking about the interiors, the new-gen Kia Sonet is expected to equip several new features. This includes a larger infotainment screen, a panoramic sunroof, level 2 ADAS, an upgraded sound system, and more. More information on what’s added inside is expected to be revealed as we near its launch.

Powertrain

Regarding the powertrain, we expect the updated Kia Sonet to not see any changes under the hood. It will likely continue with 1.5-litre diesel (114 bhp & 250 Nm), a 1.2-litre NA petrol (82 bhp & 115 Nm), and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (118 bhp & 172 Nm). Transmission duties are handled by a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, a 7-speed DCT, and a 6-speed AT. 

Alongside this, industry rumours suggest that the model is expected to receive a new hybrid powertrain. The hybrid powertrain will likely be based on the 1.2-litre NA petrol engine and will offer better fuel efficiency.

Launch & Pricing

Talking about the launch, the new generation Kia Sonet is expected to launch by the end of 2026 or early 2027. The hybrid version of the model will likely launch after the new-gen model; we expect it near the end of 2027. Talking about pricing, with changes to the underpinnings, we expect to keep the new-generation Sonet’s prices competitive. That said, the Sonet could likely see a hike of up to Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh depending on the variant.
