Honda City To Get Much-Needed Update! » MotorOctane

The 2020s may be dominated by the Hyundai Creta and Tata Nexon, but the 2000s and 2010s were ruled by one car –  the Honda City. It was the most desirable car at one point, but has been forgotten since then. However, Honda is planning to change that by introducing major updates. Honda City Facelift In Works!

The growth in the SUV segment has affected sedans big time. But even within the sedan segment, the City struggles as the Virtus, Slavia and Verna continue to see healthy sales. The City needs a major change, and Honda thinks it is time for one.

According to our sources, the Honda City will draw inspiration from the global-spec Civic and be made sportier. The demand for a sporty sedan exists, and Honda could be targeting that market. The pricing will remain identical to the outgoing model to keep the City competitive. We expect it to be priced between Rs 14 lakh and Rs 20 lakh, and the hybrid will cost around Rs 22-23 lakh(on-road, Mumbai).

Best In-Class Features!

The key updates will come inside the cabin, as our sources suggest that an ADAS suite will be made standard. This is particularly impressive since the Virtus and Slavia miss out on ADAS even on the top trim.  Even the base variants will get Honda Sensing ADAS features, including assist features such as adaptive cruise control, Collision Mitigation Braking System (CBMS), lead car departure notification system, Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), rear departure mitigation system, and auto high-beam. This is a Level-1 ADAS suite, but if you want more extensive ADAS features, you would have to opt for the Hyundai Verna.

Its current feature list includes –

  • Rain-sensing wipers
  • Electric Sunroof
  • Wireless Charger
  • Auto-dimming IRVM
  • Leatherette seats
  • 8-inch infotainment screen
  • Rear sunshade
  • Automatic headlamps
  • Electrically-adjustable ORVMs with auto-fold feature

Honda will add a few features, such as powered and ventilated front seats, a larger infotainment screen and a fully digital instrument cluster to freshen things up.

Honda City Facelift – Powertrain

The powertrain options will be carried over from the outgoing model. It would feature a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine (120 bhp & 145 Nm) mated to either a CVT or a 6-speed manual transmission. It would also be offered with hybrid technology for those who desire better fuel efficiency figures. The powertrain has never been a problem for the City, as it is one of the most reliable engines on the market.

Launch Confirmed?

Speculation suggests that the City facelift will be launched in the second half of 2026. Honda has been pretty silent in the market as of late, and the Japanese automaker is planning to stir things up in 2026 with the City facelift, Prelude and the ZRV. Could the facelift turn fortunes for the City?
