The wait is finally over. Volkswagen has today unveiled the 2026 Taigun facelift in India, and it comes in seven variants to suit every kind of buyer. But here is the interesting part: its sibling, the Skoda Kushaq, beat it to the market by three weeks. Same platform, same engines, same factory in Pune, but two very different personalities. The base variant is more than basic. It comes with LED headlamps, auto-levelling headlamps, a new front bumper with chrome strips, a new rear lower bumper with diffuser, a new tail lamp design with infinity LED tail lights and rear sequential turn indicators, rear heated windshield with wiper and smart touch climatronic AC. Powertrains offered in this variant include 1.0 TSI (115 hp) and a 6-speed MT. Expected price: around Rs 13-14 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

In contrast, the Kushaq Classic Plus, the base variant, gets elements usually found only on higher trims, such as alloy wheels, an electric sunroof, and an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and it has a longer feature list than the Taigun.

Step up to the Highline and you get the 8-speed automatic gearbox, new R16 “Nottingham” alloy wheels in silver, anthracite fabric seats with CNC stitching in Silver Grey, a Dashboard Décor in Amur Grey Satin with IML inserts in Cross Lines, electric sunroof, front parking sensors, a 10.1 inch infotainment system with USB tethering, voice commands for AC and infotainment, and the party trick, a ‘Hello Volkswagen’ voice assistant powered by Google Cloud’s Automotive AI Agent. Powertrains offered in this variant include 1.0 TSI mated to either a 6-speed MT or the new 8-speed AT.  Expected price: around Rs 15-16 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Whereas its sibling, the Kushaq Signature, builds on its base similarly, with a 10.1-inch infotainment screen featuring a Google AI companion app, and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display with turn-by-turn navigation, providing a few more features than the equivalent Taigun.

For those who want the sporty look without the full GT package, the GT Line adds glossy black strips on the front bumper, new R17 “Plus” alloy wheels in black, and fabric seats with grey stitching. This variant comes with a 1.0-litre TSI as standard, and the gearbox options include a 6-speed MT and an 8-speed AT. Expected price: around Rs 17-19 lakh (on-road, Mumbai)..

The Kushaq Sportline directly competes here with a more consistent package. It gets blacked-out alloy wheels with red accent detailing, an all-black grille treatment, and a sportier overall stance. Kushaq keeps it cleaner by putting the sporty stuff into a single variant. Taigun gives you more stepping stones, which means more choice but also more complexity.

The Topline is where comfort and tech come together properly. It gets a front grille with a light band, illuminated front and rear logos (rear in red), new dual-tone diamond-cut R17 “Plus” alloy wheels, Storm Grey leatherette seats with black piping and London Grey stitching, a Dashboard Décor in Sanguine Pearl with IML inserts in Sienna, a panoramic sunroof with summer function, a 10.25 inch digital cockpitwith Active info display, and turn-by-turn navigation with real-time destination and ETA. Similar powertrains to the lower variants are offered in this variant. Expected price around Rs 19-21 lakh.

Here, things get interesting: Kushaq Prestige matches almost identically, but Taigun has focused more on an illuminated logo and a richer interior colour scheme, while the Kushaq counters with rear massage features that are hard to overlook on long drives.

The GT family kicks off here. The GT Plus Chrome adds ‘GT’ lettering on the doors in red, Storm Grey leatherette seats with red piping and stitching, ‘GT’ embroidery on the front seats in red, and red-painted rear disc brakes for that sporty visual cue when you peek through the alloys. Powertrains offered in this variant include a 1.5 TSI mated with a 7-speed DSG. Expected price around Rs 19.50-20.00 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

But its direct competitor, the Kushaq’s  Monte Carlo, takes a different approach. It gets an all-black grille with red accents, black alloy wheels with red detailing, a black headliner, red contrast stitching, and special seat upholstery, making it feel sportier. The Taigun offers two top choices: Chrome or Sport. On the other hand, the Kushaq Monte Carlo nails the sporty-premium balance in one clean variant.
