Volkswagen Taigun Unveiled!

The Volkswagen Taigun has been launched in a refreshed avatar. It is offered in 7 variants. Colour options include – Avocado Pearl, Wild Cherry Red, Candy White, Deep Black Pearl, Steel Grey, Lava Blue, Reflex Silver, Carbon Steel, and Carbon Steel Matte . Its pre-bookings have already commenced, but you will have to wait slightly longer for the pricing to be announced. We expect it to be priced between Rs 13 lakh and Rs 23 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Looks

The Taigun was always an attractive-looking car, and it has now been tweaked slightly to match the current Volkswagen design language. It gets a connected LED DRL up front, with a slimmer headlight unit. You also get a revised front grille and bumper. You can also spot the illuminated front and rear VW badge.

Move to the side, and you can spot newer alloy wheels. Otherwise, the side profile is identical to its predecessor. One key thing to note is that the GT Plus variants feature blacked-out elements across the body, compared to the chrome of lower variants.

At the rear, changes are minimal. You get a similiar connected taillights like the pre-facelift model. Volkswagen has been subtle with the changes, instead of going overboard to make it stand out.

Interior

The overall look of the cabin remains the same. Luckily, the feature list has gotten some new additions like –

  • Rear massaging seats
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Larger 10.25-inch digital driver’s display

Some of its other features include –

  • 10.1-inch infotainment screen
  • Alloy wheels as standard
  • Electric sunroof as standard
  • Electrically-adjustable ORVMs with auto-fold
  • Auto-dimming IRVM
  • Rear wipers as standard
  • Ventilated front seats
  • 6-airbags as standard
  • Sequential turn indicators
  • 6-way powered front seats

Moreover, Volkswagen has fixed the air conditioning issue, as the Taigun now features an improved air compressor. It is also important to note that it is a 5-star GNCAP-rated SUV, meaning that you don’t have to worry about its safety.

Powertrain

The engine options have been carried over from the outgoing model. The lower variants get a 1.0-litre TSI engine producing 115 bhp and 178 Nm, mated to either a 6-speed manual or an all-new 8-speed AT. With the new AT gearbox, the Taigun promises 5.8% better fuel economy.

The higher GT trims get a 1.5-litre TSI engine, with active cylinder deactivation, that churns out 150 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. But the disappointing part is that you can’t get this punchy motor with a manual gearbox. You have no option but to settle for a 7-speed DSG.
