MG Starlight – XUV 7XO Rival In 2026

Currently, MG is preparing to launch the Majestor this month. But its plans for 2026 don’t seem to stop there. MG is preparing to launch another 7-seater soon – the Starlight 560.
From the latest spy footage, the MG Starlight seems to carry forward a familiar design language, featuring a five-spoke alloy wheel design reminiscent of the MG Hector. However, it’s the front fascia that truly grabs attention this time. The SUV appears to have an attractive front. Striking LED headlamps paired with sharper, refined DRLs give it a stronger, more commanding road presence. The bonnet looks longer and flatter, subtly enhancing its SUV stance while adding a touch of sophistication.

More Premium Than Before?

Step inside, and MG is expected to significantly elevate the cabin experience. The Starlight could come equipped with an upgraded software interface, offering smoother performance and more advanced connected-car features. Rumours also hint at a larger infotainment system, ventilated rear seats, and a cleaner dashboard layout with fewer physical buttons, leaning towards a more minimalistic and modern design philosophy. Features like a panoramic sunroof, powered front seats, wireless charging, and a 360-degree camera are likely to be there, but with an updated cabin theme and fresher upholstery that enhances the overall premium feel. Moreover, it will be offered in 5- and 7-seater configurations.

Under the Bonnet – XUV 7XO Rival In 2026

Mechanically, the Starlight 560 brings something genuinely new to the table. The PHEV pairs a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a 20.5 kWh battery pack for a combined output of 197 bhp and 230 Nm, an electric-only range of 100 km, and a total range of over 1,100 km when the petrol engine kicks in. The EV, meanwhile, runs on a 56.7 kWh battery, producing 136 bhp and 200 Nm, good for up to 500 km on a single charge, with DC fast charging taking just 20 minutes from 30 to 80 per cent. If launched as expected, the Starlight 560 would become the most affordable plug-in hybrid in India, with the PHEV squaring off against the Mahindra XUV 7XO and the EV taking on the XEV 9S.
Pricing is anticipated to start from around Rs 20 lakh and go up to Rs 30 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), placing it right in the heart of the competitive mid-size SUV segment.

The Real Battle Ahead

Here’s where it gets interesting. The Mahindra XUV 7XO is widely considered one of the most anticipated launches of 2026 because of its reliability and value for money. This vehicle has created brand value among the buyers. But now things could be changed because this new MG Starlight arrives with a sharper look, richer features, and an aggressive price tag, which could give buyers a genuinely compelling reason to look beyond the usual suspects.
