The Tata Nexon has become the SUV to beat for all automakers. Despite not receiving major updates since 2024, it remains one of the best-selling SUVs in India. Tata Nexon Spotted!

At the moment, the Nexon is one of the most value-for-money cars in the market. You get a ton of features and a powerful powertrain for a reasonable price. And now, a Nexon test mule has been spotted, suggesting that Tata is cooking something behind the curtains. But what is Tata exactly up to?
The test mule looks identical to the outgoing model. The headlight and taillight design is identical, and so is the overall design language. Despite the scrappy camouflage, it is easy to spot that it is a Nexon. This suggests that Tata is testing some updates on Indian roads rather than introducing a facelift or its next-generation model. Moreover, we can spot the exhaust, which means that these updates would be on the ICE model only.

Nexon CNG AMT Coming Soon?

The glaring omission in the Nexon spec sheet is a CNG AMT powertrain. Even its smaller sibling, the Punch, gets this powertrain. The demand for CNG has been rising over the years, and the Nexon has benefited greatly from it. Simultaneously, the demand for an AMT and an AT has also risen. Tata is yet to try the CNG AMT recipe with the Nexon.
We suspect that Tata will finally bring the CNG-AMT configuration to the Nexon. It will be offered with the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 6-speed AMT. It would also feature the Tata’s dual-cylinder technology to maximise boot space.

Tata Nexon Spotted – What Else?

The feature list is expected to remain identical with features like –
- Ventilated front seats
- Panoramic sunroof
- 10.25-inch infotainment screen
- Wireless charging
- Level-2 ADAS
- 360-degree camera
- 10.25-inch digital driver’s display
Other than the addition of an AMT gearbox, the powertrain will remain unchanged. Along with the CNG powertrain, it will be offered with a conventional 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. Gearbox options include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed AMT, and a 7-speed DCT.

Expected Pricing & Launch

At the moment, the Nexon CNG is available across all variants. The CNG MT trims are priced between Rs 9.51 lakh and Rs 15.52 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). And the CNG AMT trims would be priced around Rs 65,000 to Rs 80,000 higher than the equivalent manual variants.
The next-gen Nexon is expected to arrive in the coming 6-10 months. It has been suspected that the new Nexon will be based on Sierra’s ARGOS platform. But since the test mule is identical to the outgoing model, it is unlikely to be the next-gen Nexon. We expect Tata to unveil the new CNG-AMT trim very soon, around August-September this year, with the next-gen model following soon after.
