Triumph Tracker 400 Launched!

Triumph expanded its mid-capacity lineup in India with the launch of the much-anticipated Tracker 400. Even though it shares its name with the international 400cc model, the big news for the Indian market is the introduction of an all-new 350cc liquid-cooled engine. This move allows Triumph to benefit from a lower GST bracket, making the premium “Tracker” lifestyle more accessible to Indian riders. Recently, Royal Enfield unleashed its new affordable mean machine, the Guerilla 450, and the Triumph Tracker would lock horns directly with the Guerilla in terms of power figures. However, the Tracker is much cheaper than the Guerilla, making it more affordable, and the competition would get intense with this rivalry.

The standout feature of this launch is the downsized version of the TR-Series engine. Triumph reduced the stroke of the existing 398cc motor and created a sub-350cc unit (approx 349cc).

The engine produces around 38 bhp and 32 Nm of torque. It is tuned to deliver a broader torque spread at lower RPMs, which suits the “Tracker” riding style. The focus is on strong mid-range performance and smooth power delivery.

The “Tracker” features a rugged yet minimalist aesthetic. It comes with wider handlebars – 43mm wider than the Speed 400, for better leverage. Triumph has also revised geometry with a tighter rake and slightly shorter wheelbase makes it more flickable in city traffic. It sits 15mm taller than the Speed 400, with a seat height of 805mm, giving it a more commanding presence without being intimidating and comes equipped with dual-purpose tyres and 17-inch cast alloy wheels, maintaining the urban-scrambler look.

Thanks to the lower 18% GST slab for sub-350cc motorcycles, the Tracker 400 is now priced very aggressively. It comes with a price tag of ₹2,80,000 (on-road, Mumbai). The Triumph Tracker 400 with the 350cc engine is a strategic move. It offers the premium fit and finish of a Triumph at a price point that directly challenges the dominance of the Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450. For someone looking for a stylish, high-quality “Tracker” that doesn’t break the bank in terms of taxes, this is currently one of the most exciting packages.
