Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 emerged as the top-selling adventure motorcycle in its segment with an annual sales growth of over 53 percent

Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 has become the top-selling adventure motorcycle in its segment in India and Brazil. The ADV bike registered its strongest year yet with an annual sales growth of over 53 percent (excluding India). The company sold more than 38,000 units of the Himalayan 450 last year in global markets. The ongoing model of the adventure bike was launched with the Sherpa engine at the end of 2023 with over 9,600 units sold that year. The previous version, christened as Himalayan 411, was sold between 2016 and 2023.

Royal Enfield Himalayan Mana Black was introduced last year in the Indian market at a price point of Rs 3.37 lakh (ex-showroom). This model is inspired by the formidable Mana Pass known to be one of the world’s most challenging high-altitude routes. The Mana Black edition is nearly Rs 18,000 more expensive than the range-topping variant of the stock bike.

Recently, the Himalayan 450 was among the most prominent motorcycles at the Adventure Bike Rider (ABR) Festival, one of the world’s most celebrated adventure motorcycling events, held in Warwickshire (UK). Some of the rides and programmes associated with the ADV bike include Himalayan Odyssey and the Great Himalayan Exploration among many others.

Based on a twin spar tubular frame, the Himalayan 450 gets 43 mm upside down front forks and linkage type rear mono shock absorber with travel distance of 200 mm. It tips the weighing scale at 181 kg with a fuel tank capacity of 17 litres. The ADV bike comes with ground clearance of 230 mm. The Himalayan 450 has a saddle height of 860 mm.

Riding on 21-inch front and 17-inch rear wire-spoke wheels, it comes with an array of premium features in the form of all-LED lighting (headlamp, turn indicators and tail lamp), Ride modes, USB type C charging point and 4 inch round TFT display with smartphone Bluetooth connectivity and full map navigation powered by Google Maps. The stopping power is provided by 320 mm ventilated disc unit at front and 270 mm ventilated disc unit at the rear.

The braking system is assisted by switchable dual-channel ABS, which comes as a standard safety feature. At the heart, the Himalayan 450 houses the 451.65cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled Sherpa petrol engine which generates max power of 39.5 bhp at 8000 rpm and peak torque of 40 Nm at 5500 rpm. The engine platform comes with ride-by-wire technology while paired to a 6-speed gearbox.
