Kia Seltos Hybrid Revealed!

Kia unveiled the new-gen Seltos a few months ago with the all-new K3 platform. However, the powertrain options have been carried over from its predecessor. But now, it is expected to get a new powertrain that would set it apart from the two leaders of the segment – the Sierra and the Creta.
Kia has unveiled the Seltos as a hybrid in the US, suggesting we could see one in India soon as well. The Korean manufacturer has hinted at bringing a hybrid powertrain to India, and the Seltos could be the first to benefit.

Powertrain

The US-spec Seltos gets a 1.6-litre NA petrol engine mated to a hybrid powertrain and a 6-speed DCT. It also gets an AWD option. This configuration is also available on some other Kia models in the US. Other powertrain options include a 2.0-litre NA petrol engine and a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine.
However, the Indian-spec version is powered by different motors. You get two petrol options – a 1.5-litre NA petrol and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, along with a 1.5-litre diesel. Even the gearbox choices differ, with a 7-speed DCT, a 6-speed AT, and a 6-speed manual.
It is unlikely that Kia will introduce an entirely new engine and gearbox for the hybrid like Renault. We expect the hybrid powertrain to be mated to the 1.5-litre NA petrol engine and a 7-speed DCT. Being the Seltos’ sister car, we could also expect to see the hybrid powertrain in the Hyundai Creta.

Kia Seltos Hybrid – Expected Launch & Pricing

In the US, the hybrid is expected to be launched later this year. And in the Indian markets, we could see it by early to mid-2027. Kia will aim to target the fuel-efficiency-loving public with the Seltos hybrid. The demand for a hybrid is pretty evident with the Grand Vitara, Victoria, Hyryder, and now the Duster and the Seltos will join in on this party.
The hybrid tech won’t be cheap, and we expect it to be offered on the higher variants. It could be priced between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 25 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). This expected price could rise further if Kia offers an AWD drivetrain as well.
