Yes, we are talking about the Bajaj Pulsar NS 400Z. It is the most powerful Pulsar yet. And it is also the most affordable 400cc bike you can buy in India today. However, India’s GST restructuring for motorcycles led the brand to consider downsizing the engine to bring the bike under the 350cc tax slab. Motorcycles with engine capacity above 350 cc are subject to a higher tax slab that includes an additional cess. By reducing the displacement, Bajaj could price the bike more aggressively. So, we can expect the revised bike to carry a price tag of around Rs 2.15 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Recently, the engine specifications of the downsized NS400Z have been leaked, giving us a glimpse of the new performance figures. Bajaj has retained the 89mm bore but reduced the stroke from 60mm to 56.1mm, resulting in the lower displacement. So, the revised 349.13cc engine produces a maximum power output of 38.60 bhp, which is 3.81 bhp lower than the current 373cc engine, which produced about 42.41 bhp. Differences in torque figures went from 33.2 Nm at 7500 RPM, down slightly from 35 Nm.

While the engine capacity drops mildly, the overall platform and hardware are expected to remain largely the same. USD front forks, rear monoshock suspension and a perimeter frame will be retained. Disc brakes at both ends, with sintered brake pads and dual-channel ABS for better braking and safety. On the tech side, ride modes, Bluetooth-enabled digital cluster, turn-by-turn navigation and full LED lighting will remain as they are.

When the GST 2.0 reforms were introduced, the company absorbed the GST cost to keep the motorcycle well-priced. With the new 349cc engine, Bajaj may find it advantageous to pursue reduced taxation, enabling the brand to maintain its current pricing strategy while mitigating the impact of rising production costs, rather than implementing a substantial price reduction.

The 2026 Bajaj 350cc lineup is expected to launch in the coming weeks. Reports also suggest that the same engine and strategy could eventually appear in motorcycles under Bajaj’s partnership with Triumph Motorcycles. This will potentially affect models like the Triumph Speed 400.
