When Kia unveiled the new-generation of the Seltos, it was very proud of the new K3 platform, which it claimed was much safer than before. Its predecessor had received some criticism for the safety, but have they actually worked on this matter?

To find out, the Seltos underwent BNCAP tests. And the results were impressive. The new Kia Seltos received a commendable 5-star rating. It received 31.70 points out of 32 in the adult-occupancy test and 45 out of 49 in the child-occupancy test.

This means it has beaten the big shot, the Tata Sierra, in this regard. While the Sierra may boast a 5-star rating as well, the difference is evident on the scoresheet. The Sierra manages 31.14 points in adult safety and 44.73 in child safety. Which also means that we can now officially call it the “Safest SUV” in the segment.

The Seltos gets 24 safety features as standard, including 6 airbags, TPMS, ABS, and all-wheel disc brakes. Higher variants get more tech, such as Level-2 ADAS, which definitely helps their ratings. But for the test to be fair, both the base (HTE (O)) and top (GTX) trim were tested.

Some of its other features include –

  • Ventilated and powered front seats
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • 12.3-inch infotainment screen
  • 12.3-inch driver’s display
  • Bose premium sound system
  • 360-degree parking camera
  • Electrically-adjustable ORVM with auto-fold

Powertrain options include –

  • 1.5-litre NA petrol (6-speed MT/ iVT)
  • 1.5-litre turbo-petrol (6-speed MT/ 7-speed DCT)
  • 1.5-litre diesel ( 6-speed MT/ 6-speed AT)

The Seltos is priced between Rs 13.08 lakh and Rs 24.49 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), which seems like a fair price for the extensive feature list, powerful powertrain options and most importantly, utmost safety.
