Renault Duster Spotted!
The launch of the Duster has created quite a wave in the market. The attractive pricing, long feature list and the powerful 1.3-litre powertrain have gotten many people excited. And with the spotting of this Duster test mule, speculation suggests that things are about to get even more exciting.
Since the Duster has already been launched, these test mules mean only one thing – the Duster hybrid. Renault has already announced that the Duster hybrid will be launched by Diwali this year. Renault is likely testing out the hybrid model in Indian conditions at the moment.
The test mule sports a Renault-branded camouflage, but it seems to serve no purpose as we already know what the Duster looks like. The hybrid version will also sport the same design language, albeit with a couple of hybrid badges added.

Powertrain
The current powertrain options include a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol. Gearbox options consist of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed DCT. Renault has also revealed details about the hybrid powertrain already. The Duster hybrid is set to get a 1.8-litre NA petrol engine mated to an 8-speed DHT (dedicated hybrid transmission). To make up the electric part of the powertrain, you get a 1.4kWh pack and two electric motors. And Renault claims that up to 80% of city driving can be done in electric mode.
While the 160bhp and 172 Nm performance figures may not seem exciting, you would get paid back in the efficiency department. We expect its real-world mileage to exceed 20 kmpl with ease, while many conventional petrol SUVs struggle to even reach double digits.

Renault Duster Spotted – Expected Pricing
Currently, the Duster is priced between Rs 12.42 lakh and Rs 22.15 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), and, as expected, the hybrid variants are expected to exceed this range. We expect it to be priced between Rs 22 lakh and Rs 25 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), which is still a decent deal when considering the amount of money you will be saving on fuel costs.
