New Pune Police Car – Volkswagen Taigun

Police in a city like Pune require vehicles that can handle everything from narrow lanes in the Peth areas to the high-speed stretches of the Mumbai-Pune expressway. Traditional Ladder-frame police SUVs have served as the backbone of the fleet; however, authorities were looking for a safer, faster and agile alternative. And the Volkswagen Taigun emerged as a strong contender for Pune Police’s specialised pursuit and patrol units. Taigun is just more than a compact SUV. Built on Volkswagen’s MQB-A0-IN platform, it delivers a strong combination of safety, performance, and driving dynamics.

Taigun holds a 5-star Global NCAP safety rating, ensuring better protection for officers during high-speed manoeuvres and emergency chases. The 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine produces 148bhp and 250 Nm of torque, offering quick acceleration. This will allow the police units to respond rapidly to emergency calls or intercept offenders. Unlike the ladder-frame SUVs, the Taigun performs more like a car in tight road conditions. This makes it easier to navigate through congested traffic and narrow streets in busy areas.
