Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella

Toyota plans to enter the mainstream electric SUV market with the Urban Cruiser Ebella, sharing its platform with the Suzuki E-Vitara. It is anticipated to feature modern styling, a large touchscreen infotainment system, and a practical electric powertrain ideal for city driving. Since it is based on the E Vitara, we expect it to get features like wireless smartphone connectivity, a fully digital driver’s display, connected car tech, and automatic climate control. Higher trims might also offer a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, wireless charging, and an ADAS suite.

Toyota is expected to include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and various driver assistance features for safety. The SUV is also anticipated to deliver a good driving range suitable for daily urban use. The Urban Cruiser Ebella is likely to be priced between ₹18 lakh and ₹25 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), depending on the battery pack and variant. With this pricing, Toyota aims to position it competitively against EV SUVs such as the Curvv EV and the BE6 in the expanding electric SUV market.

Upcoming Toyota SUVs – New Gen Toyota Hilux

The all-new Hilux has been unveiled globally, and Indian customers are eager for this iconic pickup truck. Known for its exceptional durability and off-road performance, the Hilux is a versatile utility vehicle capable of handling any terrain. The updated model will feature modern styling, redesigned interiors, and new features. 

On the safety front, the new Hilux is expected to feature Toyota Safety Sense. This could include systems such as Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control with Road Sign Assist, and Automatic High Beam. These features are designed to improve driver assistance and reduce the risk of collisions, especially on highways and long-distance drives. Reports also suggest that newer versions may include additional driver-assistance features like Proactive Driving Assist, Low-Speed Acceleration Suppression, and Emergency Driving Stop, further enhancing overall safety.

Globally, the new Hilux continues with the 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine, producing around 204hp and 500Nm of torque. Like with the Fortuner, we expect it to get a 48-volt mild-hybrid system to improve efficiency and provide smoother acceleration. The Hilux is expected to be offered with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox, along with a 4×4 drivetrain to maintain its strong off-road capability. Toyota is also exploring electric, hybrid, and hydrogen-based versions of the Hilux globally as part of its long-term electrification plans, but is unlikely to be offered in India.

In India, the new Hilux is expected to be priced between ₹40 lakh and ₹50 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), depending on the variant and features offered. This would position it slightly above the current model while keeping it competitive in the lifestyle pickup segment. It is speculated that the new Hilux will launch in India by the end of this year or early 2027.

New Gen Toyota Fortuner

This is one of the most anticipated launches in India. The next-gen Fortuner is expected to be built on Toyota’s new ladder-frame architecture, promising improved ride quality and safety. Inside, the SUV is expected to feature a completely redesigned cabin, including a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, and Level-2 ADAS. 

Under the hood, Toyota is likely to retain the 2.8-litre diesel engine, generating about 202bhp and 500Nm, complemented by a 48V mild-hybrid system for enhanced efficiency and performance. The 2.7-litre petrol engine is expected to be available as well, with both manual and automatic gearbox options, along with a 4×4 drivetrain on select variants. 

Regarding pricing, the next-generation Fortuner may be priced from around ₹40 lakh to approximately ₹65 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variant and drivetrain. The India launch is anticipated around late 2026 or early 2027.

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ

Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is a smaller, rugged off-roader inspired by the legendary Land Cruiser lineup. Built on Toyota’s IMV ladder-frame platform, the same architecture used by the Fortuner and Hilux, the SUV will prioritise durability and genuine off-road capability over urban luxury. The FJ is expected to feature a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, a powered driver seat, and a Toyota Safety Sense ADAS suite, along with terrain-focused tech like hill-descent control and multiple drive modes. 

Under the hood, the base model probably features a 2.7-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine generating approximately 163bhp and 246Nm, combined with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a part-time 4WD system. Toyota is also planning to offer strong-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains worldwide to comply with upcoming emission standards.

If launched in India, it could cost around ₹34-42 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), depending on the trim. The vehicle is expected to reach Indian shores in 2028.

Upcoming Toyota SUVs – Urban Cruiser Hyryder Facelift

The popular hybrid SUV, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, is also expected to receive a facelift. The update will likely bring subtle styling tweaks such as revised bumpers, a refreshed grille and new alloy wheels. Inside, Toyota could add a few feature upgrades similar to the Victoris, including ventilated seats, a larger touchscreen, heads up display, connected car tech, TPMS and six airbags as standard.

Mechanically, the Hyryder facelift is expected to continue with the same engine options. This includes the 1.5-litre mild hybrid petrol engine producing around 102bhp, paired with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox, and the 1.5-litre strong hybrid setup with a combined output of about 114bhp, offered with an e-CVT transmission. A CNG option and AWD on select variants are also likely to continue.

The current Hyryder is priced between Rs. 13.27 lakh and Rs. 24.51 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). With the updates, the facelift could see a price hike of around ₹40,000 to ₹50,000, and the launch is expected by late 2026.
