Toyota Fortuner CNG –

Last year, Toyota updated the Fortuner by introducing mild-hybrid technology. This was the most fuel-efficient Fortuner India ever received. But even with this technology, the cost of running a diesel engine was still high for many people. To solve this problem, Indians have developed an alternative fueling solution for the Japanese SUV. Yes, we are talking about the CNG!
Has Maruti introduced its version of the Fortuner with the CNG? Neither Maruti nor Toyota is behind this Fortuner CNG. We came across a Fortuner from the Saifuel Vadodara workshop. But how have they made this possible in such a big SUV? Is it even worth it?

We have discussed this in various other stories: CNG in a non-CNG car isn’t just plug-and-play, and this is no different. Obviously, this is not the famous diesel; it comes equipped with the 2.7-litre NA petrol, producing 166bhp and 245Nm torque. To drive it on the CNG, Saifuel Vadodara has installed the EuropeGAS CNG kit. This kit includes additional connectors, different injectors, and an ECM to be installed in the engine bay. And the most noticeable change will be in the car’s boot, which has a CNG tank. How does this modification affect the Fortuner?

Effects Of CNG On Toyota Fortuner-

On the outside, you can barely tell it’s a CNG converted Fortuner. The major change is in fuel efficiency, which has climbed from a single-digit figure to 14km per kg of CNG. Also, the gas-guzzling Fortuner will be more environmentally friendly. Well, everything looks good, right? But there are some downsides to this modification-

Just like any other car, the first concern with this after-market CNG kit is voiding the car’s 3-year or 100,000 km warranty. Also, the CNG tank eats up a lot of space in the Fortuner. More to the point, the unmatched reliability of the Toyota goes out the window. With that being said, would you still get this modification into your Fortuner to save up some money?
