The SUV that kickstarted the SUV movement, the Duster, is back. Renault has brought back this icon to make a much-needed comeback in the market. While the French automaker had already revealed the SUV in January, its pricing had yet to be announced.

Renault has officially launched the Duster at a price of Rs 12.27 lakh, with the top variant priced at Rs 21.72 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The bookings have already commenced, with deliveries starting by April. The variants include: Authentic, Evolution, Techno, Techno+, and Iconic.

What made the first-gen Duster popular was the butch SUV-like design. And with the new Duster, you can see many similarities to its predecessors. The butch look, black cladding and flared wheel arches have become synonymous with the Duster badge. Renault has refined the original design so it doesn’t look out of place in the current market. The LED DRLs, aggressive front end and the 18-inch alloys give it the look of a serious off-roader.

The cabin is practical, well laid out, and premium, making it a revelation compared to the older gen. You can find a fair few high-quality materials across the cabin. Furthermore, the cabin is quite practical, boasting a roomy 2nd-row of seats and a massive 700-litre boot.

Renault Duster Launched – Powertrain

The Duster has been launched with 2 engine options – a 1.0-litre (100bhp & 160Nm) and a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol (160bhp & 280Nm). Gearbox options include a 6-speed manual and 6-speed DCT.

Many Duster purists will be disappointed that it won’t be getting a diesel alternative. And it would be offered with a hybrid powertrain to compensate. By Diwali this year, Renault will offer a 1.8-litre NA petrol engine mated to a 1.4kWh battery pack (160 bhp and 172 Nm) and an 8-speed DHT gearbox.
