New Japanese SUV Testing Commences!

Well, the Japanese SUV we are talking about is Honda’s upcoming electric SUV, the 0 Alpha. Recently, Honda had cancelled its plans to introduce 3 of its ‘0 series’ cars in North America. However, Honda was adamant about bringing in the 0 Alpha SUV to the Indian market. And now, Honda has flagged off its journey of testing this new SUV on the challenging streets all across India. Testing commenced at Honda’s Rajasthan manufacturing plant in Tapukara. The Japanese brand showcased its 0 Alpha SUV wrapped in vibrant camouflage, giving us our first glimpse of the SUV on Indian soil. Honda plans to test the capabilities and durability of its upcoming electric SUV across the varying climatic conditions in India. 

This testing run will also give Honda a chance to examine the SUV’s performance across different driving conditions, as well as charging performance. Being Honda’s first EV, the brand will be entering a well-established EV market in India. The EVs will be manufactured in India, with an investment of Rs 1200 Crore. This Honda EV, along with any future models, will be sold in India and exported to other international markets. Honda has previously confirmed that the 0 Alpha will be introduced in India by 2027 and in other global markets. So, what do we expect to see in this upcoming Honda SUV?

Honda 0 Alpha – What to Expect?

Unveiled first at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, the Honda 0 Alpha SUV features a unique, futuristic design that helps it stand out from the crowd. With a wide, tall stance, the Honda 0 Alpha looks like an SUV and will likely offer ample cabin space. It gets a slew of design elements like a connected LED light bar at the front, an illuminated Honda logo, and a U-shaped LED light bar at the rear. Being an all-new SUV, we expect Honda to go all-in in terms of features and tech.

Expected features include a triple screen setup, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, powered and ventilated front seats and the list goes on. Going by dimensions, this SUV will likely compete with the Mahindra BE 6, Maruti eVitara, Hyundai Creta electric and a few more. This also means that Honda will price the new SUV anywhere between Rs 18 lakh & Rs 27 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
