Cheapest Toyota 7-Seater!
The Toyota-Maruti Suzuki partnership has been pretty successful for all parties involved. Maruti has received great success with the Grand Vitara and Victoris, while the Hyryder and Glanza have been best-sellers for Toyota. But the same can’t be said for the Rumion, Toyota’s version of the Ertiga. And to solve this problem, Toyota have launched a new base variant to cut down the price by almost Rs 1 lakh.

The Rumion range will now start from the new “E” variant, which is priced at Rs 11.21 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Prior to this addition, the base “S” variant was priced at Rs 12.84 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Now the price gap between the Ertiga and the Rumion has been cut to around Rs 90,000, down from Rs 2.5 lakh earlier. You pay this premium for the Toyota over the Maruti for brand value.

Given that it is the base variant, the equipment list is pretty short. The E variant misses out on rear AC vents, an infotainment screen and a sound system. But some of the key features that you get –
- 6 airbags
- 15-inch steel wheels with wheel caps
- Hill Hold Assist
- All 4 powered windows
- Manual Air Conditioning
- Rear Parking Sensors
- Adjustable headrests for all 3 rows
This variant is available with the 1.5-litre NA petrol engine (102 bhp & 139 Nm), mated to a 5-speed manual. The claimed fuel economy of the Ertiga is 20.51kmpl. If you want to opt for the 6-speed AT or a CNG kit, you would have to go for the higher variants. Would you buy the Rumion over the Maruti Ertiga? Let us know your thoughts below.
