Many automakers will try to replicate this success with their SUVs. And now a potential Sierra rival has been spotted testing on Indian roads. But can it get the same love as the Sierra? New Sierra Rival Spotted!
JSW has made big promises ahead of its imminent introduction. 2 of its SUVs have already been spotted. And now a third SUV has been spotted, and by the looks of it, JSW will try to go up against the Creta and the Sierra.
JSW has a tie-up with Chery Automobiles to bring Chinese cars to India, albeit they will still be produced in India. And this test mule is the Chery Jaecoo J5, which is already on sale in global markets. The test mule has been well-concealed, but we can spot a few distinct features, like the boxy SUV-like stance and slim LED taillights. The global-spec model sports similar aesthetic elements. The overall design language is simple and minimalistic. And from certain angles, it resembles a Range Rover.

Features & Specifications
If launched in India, it will likely get a similar feature list as the global-spec models. This list of features includes –
- Level 2 ADAS
- Panoramic glass roof
- Electric sunshade
- Heated and electrically folding ORVM
- Ventilated front seats
- 13.2-inch infotainment screen
- 8-inch digital instrument cluster
- Powered driver seat
- Powered tailgate
- 540-degree camera
In foreign markets, the J5 is available as an ICE and EV. The ICE versions are powered by a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to a CVT gearbox. With the EV, you get a 58.9kWh battery that can go up to 461km. Moreover, JSW have also shown intentions to bring HEVs to India, and the Jaecoo J5 could get a hybrid powertrain alongside the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine.

New Sierra Rival Spotted – Expected Pricing & Launch
We do not yet know whether the Jaecoo J5 will be launched as an EV, ICE, or HEV. Nonetheless, JSW will likely want to put it up against the Sierra and the upcoming Sierra.ev. If launched as an ICE or HEV, expect it to be priced around Rs 15 lakh to Rs 25 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). And if it is introduced as an EV, it could be priced around Rs 20 to Rs 25 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Moreover, JSW has already announced that it will play within the Rs 15 lakh and Rs 30 lakh price bracket.
Speculation suggests that JSW are currently prioritising the Jetour T2 and Chery iCar V23. This would mean that the launch of the Jaecoos J5 is quite some time away. We expect a launch by mid- to late-2027.
