India’s Favourite Hyundai Spotted!
Before the rise of SUVs in the automotive market, hatchbacks were the real deal. The premium hatchback segment was booming, and the i20 was one of the reasons for it. And now, Hyundai is planning to launch the next-gen i20. It has been spotted in the Scandinavian regions of Europe, and here is what we know about it.

This test mule was heavily camouflaged, but we can still spot some distinct changes. The overall design language has become more angular. It will be based on Hyundai’s new design language. Along with that, you can spot a revised front grille and new alloys.

New Hyundai i20 Spotted – Features

On the inside, the most significant change can be seen. The old 10.25-inch infotainment screen is gone for a curved twin-screen unit similar to the one in the new Venue. This new unit includes two 12.3-inch screens, one for the infotainment and the other for the driver’s display. You can also spot an updated steering wheel.
It is expected to borrow more components from the Venue spares bin. The next-gen i20 could feature a 360-degree camera, an ADAS suite, a dashcam, ventilated front seats, an electric sunroof, wireless charging, etc.

Powertrain

The outgoing model is offered with a 1.2-litre NA petrol (87bhp & 115Nm) and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (118bhp & 172Nm) on the N-Line. The gearbox options include a 5-speed manual and an iVT for the NA petrol engine, and a 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT for the N-Line. These powertrain options are expected to remain the same, but we could see some surprises.
Hyundai have shown ambitions to bring hybrid powertrains to some of its Indian vehicles, and the i20 could be one of them. In global markets, Hyundai are already planning to launch the i20 with a hybrid, but it could take slightly longer for it to be offered with the India-spec. Moreover, there have been rumours that Hyundai will offer a new 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine with the upcoming Bayon, and we could see the same on the N-line.

New Hyundai i20 Spotted – Expected Pricing & Launch

The outgoing model is priced between Rs 7.08 lakh and Rs 12.59 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The price tag for the lower variants would see minor changes, but if the next-gen i20 gets features like an ADAS suite and 360-degree camera, we could see a price hike of up to Rs 50,000 to Rs 65,000 on the higher trims
We expect the next-gen i20 to be launched by the end of 2026 or in the early months of 2027. Hyundai already have a big year ahead with the potential launches of the Bayon, Santa Fe, Tucson and the Ioniq 5 facelift. It will be interesting to see how Hyundai handle such a busy year.
