Won’t Be Allowed To Enter!

The government is now fixated on banning older vehicles in cities, regardless of a car’s actual emissions, driving patterns, or condition. And with this new proposed law, this rule will be applied to another major city, Pune.
As per a formal proposal, vehicles older than 15 years old won’t be allowed to enter the city of Pune. You would think that this would mainly affect people entering Pune, but you would be wrong. This proposal also severely restricts the residents of Pune. Here’s how.

7 Lakh Vehicles To Be Affected!

The total number of cars affected by the rule exceeds 7 lakh, according to data from the Pune Regional Transport Office. This amount includes 2-wheelers, cars and commercial vehicles. People who currently use these vehicles in the city will be restricted to driving them within city limits. Travelling to other cities would mean that upon return, these cars won’t be allowed to enter.
This rule seems fair, as pollution has become an ever-growing problem, and Pune, being a metropolitan city, obviously attracts many vehicles into its city limits. But it is not fair to blame the entire pollution problem on older vehicles. Not all old cars, bikes, etc., are major pollutants. A lot of these vehicles are well-maintained. This would also harm people who use their vehicles only rarely.
While vehicles contribute to pollution, you cannot ignore that Pune is a major industrial city. It is one of the leading manufacturing cities not only in Maharashtra but also in India.
This rule is still in its proposal stage, so you don’t have to start panicking just yet. Only after the state government accepts this proposal will this rule be applicable. Do you think this rule is fair? Let us know your thoughts below.
