New Toyota SUV

Most people know only about the Land Cruiser and the Fortuner, while the Highlander has also been a big name in global markets. It may not be as rugged and off-road focused as the other SUVs, but it offers utmost practicality and is most suitable for city driving. But with the new 2027 Highlander, Toyota has made a drastic change that could upset Toyota purists.
The next-gen Highlander will be Toyota’s first-ever electric 7-seater. With the recent rise in demand for electric SUVs, the Japanese automaker could bring it to India soon as well. Moreover, with the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella, Toyota has shown intent to bring EVs to India.

Features & Specification

The Highlander’s interiors are a revelation compared to the Toyota models on sale at the moment. The cabin boasts great practicality, with its 7-seat layout and long wheelbase, liberating space for passenger comfort. It is also packed with features such as a 14-inch infotainment display, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, wireless charging, a powered tailgate, an ADAS suite, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, and more.
The battery pack options include – 77 kWh and 95.8 kWh. The smaller pack has a claimed range of 432-461 km, while the larger pack can go up to 515 km on a single charge. What is important to note is that it offers a single-motor (FWD) and a dual-motor (AWD) option. These numbers may not be as impressive as the XEV 9S figures, but the real-world mileage may differ.

Expected Launch & Pricing

While Toyota has yet to announce its EV plans, the Highlander would make sense in the current Indian market. With stricter emission norms coming into effect next year, Toyota could consider expanding its EV range. If Toyota were to introduce the Highlander in India, we could see it by late 2027.
The Kia EV9 is its direct competition in global markets. Interestingly, the EV9 costs Rs 1.36 Crore (on-road, Mumbai) since it is a CBU import. If Toyota decide to produce it in India, it could be priced between Rs 65 lakh – Rs 80 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
