Tata’s Luxury Brand

The Avinya is Tata’s most unique project and will be its first step into the world of luxury cars. The Avinya X is expected be the first car to be launched under this brand. When first showcased at the Bharat Expo, it grabbed all the attention. The first car from this brand was expected to be launched last year, and the production was set at Tata’s Tamil Nadu plant. Unfortunately, the launch was postponed due to supply issues. However, we have finally gotten some good news about the Avinya.

Tata’s New Production Factory

In 2024, Tata unveiled its plans for its manufacturing facility in Panapakkam, Tamil Nadu. This Rs 9,000 Crore plant is capable of producing 2,50,000 units annually. Tata’s recent success has meant that its other plant in Pune is nearing maximum capacity, and a new manufacturing plant would be necessary. The Panapakkam plant is the answer. The production won’t immediately hit max capacity, and would be eased into maximising production.
To kickstart this production, Tata will start the assembly of Jaguar-Land Rover (JLR) models there. The Range Rover Evoque is the first model to start its assembly here. While the demand for JLR cars isn’t as high as the demand for Tata models, this move was made to facilitate future production. This plant won’t be limited to just JLR models and will soon also accommodate Tata cars in the near future.

Good News For The Avinya X

The change in JLR’s production plants could mean the Avinya launch could be sooner than ever. But how is Avinya affected by JLR’s production?
The Avinya X will be based on JLR’s Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA platform). This platform will accommodate future electric SUVs from Jaguar and Land Rover, along with the Avinya X. The platform will be locally produced. But it faced a major setback. Last year, all work related to the development of this platform was halted due to supply issues for some of its parts. The issue slowly became big news, and many reported that the Avinya project could be shelved.
However, Tata has confirmed to the public that the Avinya brand will go ahead as planned and its first model, the Avinya X, could be launched later this year. The initial plan was to get the JLR production started at the Tamil Nadu plant, and subsequently, start production of the Avinya X. And now, this plan seems to be showing promising signs.

Tata Avinya Expected Launch

The Avinya X will share a large chunk of parts with future JLR EV SUVs. While we are yet to know whether JLR have sorted out their procurement issues, the start of its new production plant seems like positive news.
Till now, we have gotten a glimpse of the SUV’s interior and exterior, but are yet to know the powertrain options. The only information that we have at the moment is that it will be an EV-only model and be based on JLR’s EMA platform.
The Avinya X is expected to go on sale by late 2026 and would be Tata’s most-awaited car yet. The pricing will be higher than the regular Tata SUVs, but that is expected as Tata is marketing it as a luxury product. We expect the Avinya X to cost somewhere between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 40 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
