Hero, Honda and Bajaj to Launch New Electric Motorcycles in India

Several leading legacy brands such as Hero, Honda and Bajaj are stepping into the electric motorcycle segment in the Indian market

The electric two-wheeler industry is growing at a rapid pace in India with sales growing each year. However, it is the e-scooter models that account for more than 95 percent of the overall sales while electric motorcycles constitute less than 5 percent of the total sales. Hence, it is visible that the electric bike segment is still in the nascent stages with scarcity of mainstream models in the Indian market. Several established brands such as Hero, Honda and Bajaj are planning to launch new electric motorcycles in India. Let’s talk about this in detail.

Hero Vida Ubex

Hero MotoCorp recently filed the design patent for the upcoming Vida Ubex electric motorcycle in India. It was first unveiled at the EICMA 2025 in Milan, Italy. The design patent images showed that the electric motorcycle was apparently in production ready form. The neo-naked hypermoto, developed for all-terrain riding, is likely to go on sale by the end of 2026 in the Indian market.

Flaunting a sporty streetfighter design, Vida Ubex comes with aggressive styling and all-LED lighting. The USD front forks seen on the concept version have been replaced by the more conventional telescopic units. Some of the notable elements onboard include TFT instrument cluster, disc brakes at front and rear, turn-by-turn navigation and mid-mounted electric motor. More details are expected to come in public domain as the Vida Ubex inches closer to its public debut.

Honda Electric Commuter Motorcycle

Honda is working on a commuter electric bike for the Indian market. The entry-level electric motorcycle will come with a simplistic design, revealed the latest filings. It will carry basic features such as front and rear drum brakes, telescopic front forks, dual-shock rear suspension, round headlamp and instrument panel.

It also carries an additional display screen on top of the fuel tank to show the battery charge status. The patent filed by Honda reveals that the electric motorcycle will get detachable battery packs which can be swapped at Honda’s battery swapping stations with fully charged ones. The Japanese brand had followed the same approach with the Activa e: but it failed miserably as the electric scooter found no takers.

Hero Vida VxZ

The VxZ (Vida X Zero) concept also debuted at the EICMA 2025. Recently, patent filings revealed that it has been co-developed with the US-based Zero Motorcycles from scratch. A few prominent features of the Vida VxZ include LED headlamp and turn indicators, 5-spoke alloy wheels, USD front suspension, belt-drive system, petal disc brakes at front and rear, and all-digital instrument cluster with multiple ride modes.

Riding on 17-inch wheels, it could borrow the battery pack from the existing models of Zero Motorcycles. The patent images made this quite evident due to the similar positioning of the battery and its size. The exact launch timeline is not announced yet, nor the technical specs are in public domain. The company is likely to release more details of the VxZ electric motorcycle at the EICMA 2026 in November.

Bajaj Electric Bike

Bajaj is also foraying into the electric motorcycle segment with an all-new commuter model. In Nov 2025, it was learnt that the Pune-based two-wheeler brand is developing an electric motorcycle platform, which would spawn multiple models. The project is kept under strict wraps and details are scarce at the moment.

However, Bajaj’s first electric motorcycle for India is expected to borrow multiple components from the Chetak EV, including the battery pack and electric motor. It will be locally built at the company’s factory in Pune while also exported to several global markets. Stay tuned for more details on the same.
