Land Rover Discovery

This particular model is a single-owner 2016 Land Rover Discovery Sport HSE. The Discovery Sport has aged well and still commands road presence like none other. Step inside, and you are greeted by a premium dual-tone cabin. It also comes with amenities such as a panoramic sunroof, an 8-inch infotainment display, push-button start, and cruise control.
The Discovery Sport gets a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel (236 bhp & 340 Nm), mated to a 9-speed automatic and AWD. What’s interesting about this engine is that it is an efficient powertrain, with claimed efficiency of 14-15 kmpl. The owner’s asking price is Rs 16.5 Lakh.

Audi Q3

This 2018 Audi Q3’s price tag is Rs 17 lakh. The Q3 is Audi’s entry-level SUV. For the price of a top-variant Nexon, you can get this 2018 Q3. This SUV is loaded with amenities, including an electric sunroof, cruise control, leatherette seats, automatic climate control, reverse camera, and 10-way power front seats.
The Q3 is powered by a 1.4-litre turbo-diesel engine (148 bhp & 250 Nm), mated to a 6-speed AT. It may not be as powerful as the Q5 and Q7, but the engine is punchy enough to survive city conditions. The main USP of the Q3 is its badge, and you would be paying a large chunk of the price for its badge alone.

Mercedes ML250 CDI

The Mercedes M-Class was the predecessor of the popular GLE. We have found one such SUV under the given budget. While this may not be a 7-seater like the Q7, it offers plenty of practicality thanks to its huge 690 litre boot. On the inside, it shows its age thanks to the small TFT display in the instrument cluster and a tiny infotainment screen. But that is the sacrifice you make for the Mercedes badge and the ML250’s road presence. It may be one of the oldest cars in the list, but the deal seemed too enticing for us to ignore.
You get it with a torquey 2.2-litre diesel (203 bhp & 500 Nm) and a 7-speed AT. Like most premium SUVs, the ML gets an AWD drivetrain. The owner’s asking price is Rs 16.95 lakh, but we believe that with proper negotiation skills, you can bring it down significantly. It is a single-owner unit with relatively low running at 55,000 km. You could also get a used GLA for this cost, but why settle for the smaller SUV?

BMW X3

We have found this 2015 BMW X3 for Rs 16 Lakh. And this isn’t a low-end variant either; it is the xDrive 30d M Sport, fitted with all the bells and whistles. It gets features such as automatic climate control, a rear parking camera, a panoramic sunroof, an infotainment screen with Bluetooth connectivity, and an extendable thigh support for front passengers. These features may not scream “luxury” to the naked eye, but back in 2015, the X3 was quite desirable. Moreover, half of the car’s value resides in the BMW badge.
The X3 is powered by a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder diesel (255 bhp & 560 Nm) and comes with an 8-speed AT and AWD. The X3’s design has aged well and still looks handsome, and when you factor in its spacious, plush interiors, it’s a decent deal.

Volvo XC40

The XC40 might be the entry-level Volvo SUV, but it is still a Volvo. You can get this Swedish SUV for Rs 16.49 Lakh. It may be 8 years old, but its equipment list keeps up with modern cars. It is packed with features, including a 9-inch infotainment screen, a digital driver’s display, and a panoramic sunroof. When you step inside, you are greeted by premium leather seats and high-quality materials across the cabin.
The XC40 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel (187 bhp & 400 Nm) and is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Interestingly, the XC40 is equipped with an AWD drivetrain. Due to its compact size, it makes for a great city car while having off-road capabilities.

BMW X1

You must have already guessed that the X1 would make this list. This 2018 BMW X1 has been listed at Rs 17 lakh. It is still a good-looking car and has aged really well for a 8-year old car. But its age gets evident when you step in and look at the analogue instrument cluster and the small infotainment screen. Nevertheless, it comes with a decent equipment list, including a panoramic sunroof, a reverse parking camera, cruise control, 6 airbags, and more. Plus, you get a practical interior and an abundance of soft-touch materials.
The X1 is powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel (187 bhp & 400 Nm), mated to an 8-speed AT. This deal seems particularly enticing when you consider that it has been driven for just 55,000 km and is a first-owner vehicle. This could be a great opportunity to own a BMW SUV on a budget.

Porsche Cayenne

A Porsche for the price of a Nexon? Yes, but it comes with two red flags: it has 135,000 km on the odometer and is a 2012 model. If you look at the bright side, it may be reliable enough to cross the 1 lakh mark in the first place. You would need to get the comprehensive service records to know for sure.
With this Cayenne, you can brag to your mates that you own a Porsche. You also get the bragging rights of owning a V8. The Cayenne is powered by a punchy 4.2-litre V8 diesel (382 bhp & 850 Nm) and an 8-speed AT, along with AWD. Step inside, and you are greeted by an all-beige interior with a centre console loaded with buttons. Like some of the other cars on this list, the equipment list may not seem as impressive as that of a modern-day SUV, but you have all the basic amenities to get by. That is the price prospective owners are willing to pay to own a Porsche. At Rs 15.45 lakh, you can bargain it down to Rs 14-15 lakh.

Things To Remember
These deals sound like a dream to some, but it isn’t that simple. The reason why some of these cars are so cheap is that their maintenance is pricey. Such premium cars are loaded with tech and electronics, making it a tough job to work on. Buying such SUVs is a big gamble. You could land with an absolute gem that doesn’t break down as often, or get a car that loves the service shop more than the highways. Nevertheless, you should keep aside around Rs 3-5 Lakhs, solely for maintenance or fixing existing issues.
If you are planning to buy one of these cars, get it checked by a trusted mechanic. Or if you are knowledgeable about such cars yourself, you should go for it.
