Recently, Thane’s Mira-Bhayandar flyover was all over the news and on social media for its abysmal construction. However, this isn’t the only engineering marvel in India. Here are some other construction failures, or some may call them scandals, that you should know about.

Thane Flyover

This flyover starts with 4 lanes but abruptly drops to 2. If this lane change had been done gradually, we could have toned down the criticism. But here, the lane cut down is too egregious to ignore. The flyover creates a huge bottleneck and will add to the already traffic-ridden Mira-Bhayandar. To make matters worse, MMRDA defends this blunder.
90-Degree Bridge

This absurd construction marvel in Bhopal is nothing short of a death trap. The actual angle of the turn is 118 degrees, but to the naked eye, it looks pretty close to a right angle. The state government of Madhya Pradesh took action against 8 engineers and the construction company involved, but in the end, the damage had already been done, and Rs 18 Crores of tax money had been spent on this broken marvel. Government officials suggest that if extra land were available in that proximity, this sharp turn could be converted into a curve. But till then, the flyover remains dangerous and completely hopeless.

Mira Road Speed Hump

The purpose of a speed breaker is to slow speeding vehicles, but this particular speed hump completely stalls the car. The speed breaker is so enormous that even SUVs have to zigzag to get past. Smaller vehicles like hatchbacks and sedans can damage their underbodies when attempting to get over it. To put the icing on this terrible cake, the speed breaker has no markings, making it not only a safety hazard and a car killer but also a catalyst for traffic.

Eiffel Tower Bangalore

Many people know that India has its own Eiffel Tower. This high-tension transmission tower has been placed in the middle of the road. We are yet to know whether this construction is a result of corruption, stupidity or sheer laziness. And that remains a mystery we can never solve.
The tower being placed in the middle of the road makes driving through it more difficult than it needs to be. But there is a plus side to it nonetheless. Only smaller cars can get under the bridge, so heavy vehicles avoid that road. The narrow street now remains traffic-free and peaceful.

Lucknow’s Infamous Bridge

Many of the above marvels have already been built, but with this particular flyover, the construction company realised its mistake. Unfortunately, the damage had already been done. The flyover, instead of connecting to a nearby hallway, connects into a building. You can see the iron bars being millimetres away from the building walls, and the actual flyover heading into – well, nowhere. The damage has been done, and the taxpayers’ money has been squandered.

F1-Track In Andhra Pradesh

To the list of absurd bridges, this stands out prominently. In this Penukonda (AP), the situated bridge has not one, not two, but three 90-degree turns. This bridge is nothing but a safety hazard, not to mention the traffic issues one faces during rush hour. Not even the harshest of F1 tracks are this challenging to drive on.
