Get Skoda Turbo Petrol Automatic At The Price of Swift? » MotorOctane

Buying a new car today often feels like a compromise. But what if you could buy a turbo-petrol automatic for the price of a hatchback like the Maruti Swift or Baleno? Hard to believe, right? But Skoda says that the sweet spot finally exists for the buyers who want more than ‘just a hatchback’ at the price of one. So let’s have a look at which car it is.

Skoda’s Cheapest Turbo Petrol Automatic

Instead of pushing the buyers straight to the higher trims, Skoda has found a way out by adding two new additions to the Kylaq lineup- Classic+ and Prestige+. While the Prestige+ sits at the top of the lineup, it’s the Classic Plus that draws immediate attention.

The Skoda Kylaq Classic+, priced at Rs. 10.79 lakh (on-road Mumbai), becomes Skoda’s cheapest turbo-petrol automatic. To put into perspective, the Maruti Suzuki Swift ZXi Plus Dual Tone AGS costs around Rs. 10.30 lakh (on-road Mumbai). So now, at a similar price, the buyers are no longer limited to a hatchback automatic with a naturally aspirated engine.

Some might think that the Kylaq Classic Plus sits just about Rs. 50,000 higher than the Swift. And you are right! But it is important to note that you move from a hatchback to a turbo-petrol automatic SUV, with a more powerful engine and bigger road presence. Not just limited to this, the Skoda Kylaq is currently rated as the safest ICE-powered sub-4m SUV in India by Bharat NCAP. The Kylaq outperforms its rivals like XUV 3XO and Nexon in safety terms, something the Swift does not currently match.

With the new Classic Plus variant, buyers no longer need to stretch their budgets by nearly Rs 1.7 lakh just to jump from the Classic to the Signature. Positioned perfectly between the trims, the Classic Plus offers a more logical step-up and gives the rare advantage of getting a turbo-petrol automatic at this price point.

Powertrain

The Skoda Kylaq Classic+ packs the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine, offered with both manual and automatic transmission options. The TSI engine produces 114bhp and 178Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual or a torque-converter automatic. Interestingly, Skoda is expected to bring the new 8-speed Automatic transmission to the Kylaq, similar to the one introduced in the 2026 Kushaq facelift. This will be another cherry on top of the Kylaq as the additional ratios will allow the engine to stay in its optimal power band more often, resulting in better fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions. At the same time, closer gear spacing will improve acceleration, giving the Kylaq a punchier and more responsive driving experience.
