Most Affordable Skoda To Get India’s Favourite Engine?

Skoda recently launched the Kushaq facelift, along with a few exciting announcements of other Skoda cars. However, one of the best pieces of news for all the Skoda fans out there is that the brand is considering a Kylaq CNG. In an interview with Autocar Professional, Martin Jahn (Board member of sales and marketing at Skoda), said that “We are looking at all alternatives, and CNG, I think, is a possibility.” So, it is safe to say that Skoda is looking to bring in India’s favourite engine to its most affordable SUV.
This will be quite the deal considering you get a sub-4-meter SUV, with Skoda design and build quality, a fun-to-ride experience and with the CNG, great fuel economy. Now, the chances of Skoda bringing in a CNG option for the Kylaq are quite possible. We say so because Skoda showcased a Vision X Concept back in 2018, on which the current Kushaq is based. The Vision X Concept had a CNG-hybrid powertrain. So we now know the MQB-A0-IN, which underpins both the Kushaq and the Kylaq, can accommodate a CNG powertrain.

We can expect to see the CNG powertrain to be offered with the 1.0-litre TSI engine. Plus, the demand for CNG in our country has always been quite high. And if Skoda offers CNG in the Kylaq, it is going to be a crowd puller. Given that the Kylaq is Skoda’s best-selling SUV, the CNG model will bring in more sales for the brand. It will be interesting to see whether the Kylaq CNG could potentially eat into the sales of the Nexon CNG.

Skoda Kylaq CNG – What Else?

The Skoda Kylaq CNG will likely continue to offer the same features as an electric sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, a 10-inch touchscreen, an 8-inch instrument cluster and much more. If the rumour comes to reality, Skoda will likely offer 2 engine options: a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine, and a 1.0-litre turbo petrol CNG engine. If this works out well, Skoda could offer the CNG powertrain in the Kushaq as well, seeing the significant sales of the Grand Vitara CNG and the Victoris CNG. Currently, the Kylaq carries a price tag ranging from Rs 8.85 lakh to Rs 15.34 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). It is likely that the CNG option will be offered in the mid variants. The CNG option may cost Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000 over the existing variants.
