Tata has launched the new Xpres. This is the fleet-version of the existing Tata Tigor. This car is catered for the needs of a Taxi. Maruti Suzuki has its own fleet of vehicles, and the Xpres is Tata’s answer to them. The Xpres range began with the Xpres-T EV, the fleet version of the Tiago EV. The Xpres costs Rs 5.59 Lakh for the petrol-only variant and Rs 6.59 Lakh for the CNG variant (Ex-showroom).

The Xpres is a barebones version of the Tigor. Except for the 14-inch steel wheels with covers and dual-tone interiors, there is nothing of note in the equipment list. You don’t get rear AC vents, an infotainment system or an automatic climate control, but that is what you would expect from a fleet vehicle. But it misses out on a location-tracking device with panic buttons, which its competitors offer. This feature could be critical in such a vehicle. Fleet vehicles like the Xpres prioritise practicality over features. The Xpres has a practical cabin, with a segment-leading 419-litre boot, making it a great choice for a taxi.

Tata is also offering 3 years/1,00,000 km warranty, which can be extended to 5 years/1,80,000 km. Tata also boasts about the Xpres’s low maintenance cost of Rs 0.47/km.

You get the Xpres with a 1.2L petrol engine as standard. But most potential buyers of the Xpres will be looking for a CNG option, which it also gets. This is where the Xpres gets ahead of its competition. The Xpres features a twin-cylinder CNG layout with a combined water capacity of 70L, making it the largest in the segment. Furthermore, thanks to the twin-cylinder layout, the boot space has been maximised. There is only one gearbox on offer- a 5-speed manual.
