JSW To Launch This!
JSW entered the Indian automotive market in the guise of a helping hand to MG Motor. However, a few months back, JSW had hinted at launching itsfirst product in India. In fact, in recent times, sources suggested that JSW is considering launching a plug-in hybrid SUV in India. Having said that, sources have now confirmed that JSW is planning to launch one of the unique SUVs! Many say it is a look-alike of the Land Rover Defender! However, it is officially called as the Jetour T2!

Yes, JSW is launching the Jetour T2 in India, in partnership with China’s Chery Automobile. This new SUV will be the first SUV under the JSW branding to be sold in India.
The Jetour T2 is expected to reach the showrooms by the third quarter of 2026 after rolling out of JSW’s upcoming manufacturing plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. With the Jetour J2, JSW is planning to enter the Indian automotive market as an independent entity. While the company already has a presence in the automotive segment through its joint venture with MG Motors, this upcoming SUV will be released under the nameJSW Motors Limited. This means that the car will feature a JSW badge and model name.

What To Expect?
While we haven’t received any confirmed designs for the Indian-spec, we do get a brief idea about what we can expect from the latest previews and global variants. The SUV features a bold front fascia, angular headlamps, and a muscular stance. At first glance, you may even find the design very similar to the Land Rover Defender, especially because of the boxy profile and strong shoulder lines.

It blends its rugged shape with modern touches such as LED lighting, smoother body panels, and cleaner design lines.

Also, the upcoming SUV will be the 5-seater version, measuring 4.7 metres in length. It is also a wide SUV at 2 metres and is built on a monocoque construction. Globally, there is a 7-seater version of the Jetour T2 which is significantly longer!

Powertrain
Globally, the Jetour T2 is offered with multiple powertrain options. These include the regular petrol engines as well as plug-in hybrid setups. Buyers also get a choice between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive (AWD), depending upon the market.
However, we can expect a different approach for the Indian variant. JSW has repeatedly highlighted its push towards sustainable mobility. That makes the Jetour T2 i-DM with a 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid powertrain the most fvourable choice for our market. The T2 i-Dm pairs a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor. The engine produces a combined output of 156bhp and 220Nm of torque. A 26.7kWh battery pack enables an electric-only driving range upto 130km with a fast charging from 30 to 80 per cent in just around 30 minutes. While the final details are yet to be confirmed, but this strategic move makes more sense.
We have several plug-in hybrids in India, but it is rare to find them outside the luxury space. While there is no official statement about the prices, the launch price is expected to be around Rs. 45 lakh. If that happens, the T2 i-DM could become the most affordable PHEV SUV in the country.
