Punch Safety Testing:

Moving ahead of Bharat NCAP, Tata tried to create a enivornment more resembling Indian road conditions. Punch Facelift crash testing was done by crashing it into a stationary truck at 50-64 km/h. Throughout the cash testing video, one frame shows a damaged driver’s-side door and side panel. In the rest of the video, the same door, along with the side panel, appears unharmed. This sparked the conversation about Tata using two vehicles for that testing.

Tata’s Clarification:

With the images going viral and people questioning Tata’s safety testing, Tata Motors issued a public clarification to clear this misunderstanding. The first thing Tata cleared was that only one Punch was used throughout the testing. Further, they mention that the damage to the driver’s side door was not caused by the impact. This damage to the driver’s side door and side panel is due to the door opening after the impact. The engineers need to open the door to inspect the cabin after the crash. The dents and damage on the door after the crash do not indicate issues in structural integrity or occupant safety, says Tata. According to the brand, the editing team added frames in the wrong sequence, inserting a post-impact visual between earlier shots, which caused the misunderstanding.
Even with these online conversations, we have seen Tata making the safest cars on the market. Perivous generation Punch was the safest, even with just two airbags, with the additional safety features being offered. What do you think about the safety of the Punch Facelift?
