Suzuki E-Access Price – Will It Succeed?

Suzuki has launched its first electric scooter in India. To gain momentum, it launched the scooter, naming it the Access, one of its finest ICE scooters. But the pricing isn’t lucrative, considering the range. The claimed range of the electric Access is 95km, while it is priced near the Rs 2 lakh mark! Now, the catch with the high price is that it is the first LFP battery-powered scooter. LFPs typically perform well even on low battery, but given the mindset of Indian buyers who want bigger battery packs and higher claimed range, the Access electric’s technical aspects may not convince everyone.
Yes, Suzuki is offering several other deals and charging networks, but buyers may think twice before paying a hefty upfront cost to buy the electric Access. In fact, several two-wheeler makers are offering BaaS (Battery-As-A-Service) with their EV scooters to make them more accessible – which is not the case with the Access. Now, the Access electric competes directly with the TVS Orbiter, and there are several more advanced electric scooters out in the market from Ather and Ultraviolette.
Earlier, Ather was also trolled for launching EV scooters at a higher price tag. However, the Ather scooters, along with Ultraviolette, pack better features & performance, unlike the electric Access, which misses out on a few.

What Else?

Before Suzuki, Honda had also tried to gain a strong share of the EV scooter segment with the Activa EV. But it failed not because of the pricing but because of weak planning, which led to the shutdown of production later. Now, to sustain, Suzuki would really need to consider the pricing.

Suzuki e-Access As A Product

The model was first showcased last year at the Bharat Mobility Auto Show. Design-wise, there are no major similarities between the ICE and EV versions of the Access. In terms of features, the scooter comes with LED lighting, two-tone alloy wheels, a belt-drive system, multiple ride modes, and more. The 4.1kW electric motor produces around 15Nm torque.
The brand has also said that DC chargers are currently available at more than 240 outlets, while portable AC chargers are offered across the entire network.
So, do you think Suzuki will be able to get a good market share with the e-Access in India?
