What Are We Talking About?

MG recently notified us to free up our dates (block your dates) for 12th and 13th February, suggesting a car launch. Speculation suggests that this new launch will be about the Majestor, and will sit above the Gloster in MG’s SUV range. With the Hector facelift already released, all signs point to the Majestor as the new car in MG’s lineup. The Majestor is already on sale in global markets, and here is what we know about this car.

Fortuner Rival – Key Details

The MG Majestor would be one of the longest cars in its segment, measuring 5m. It is also a striking-looking car, which demands road presence. The sleek headlights, black cladding, 20-inch alloys, enormous grille, and high ground clearance would make it one of the best-looking SUVs in the market.
Step inside and you are greeted with a 3-tone interior and 3 rows of seats. You get brushed-aluminium accents throughout the cabin to give it a premium look. The feature list is pretty comprehensive, including a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, Level-2 ADAS, a wireless charging port, a 360-degree parking camera, powered front and rear seats with massage function and a panoramic sunroof. This list is considerably better than the one with the Fortuner.
Moreover, the Majetor performed well in the ANCAP tests with a 5-star rating, and you can expect similiar results when tested for Bharat NCAP.
New Fortuner Rival – Powertrain

The Indian-spec Majestor is expected to get a 2.0L turbo-diesel engine. This diesel engine produces 215 bhp and 500 Nm of torque. The power figures may seem great, but this also means that the fuel economy will be poor. The claimed fuel efficiency of this engine is 11 kmpl, but in real-world driving, it would be even lower. The Majestor sold abroad comes with a 4WD and 8-speed Automatic gearbox as standard, but MG might offer an RWD manual option in India to lower the price tag.

New Fortuner Rival – Expected Pricing

The Majestor would sit in the class of the Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner and the Jeep Meridian. There are also a few more upcoming launches, like the Volkswagen Tayron, that would compete against it. To get an advantage over its rivals, MG would need to price it aggressively. We expect pricing to start at Rs 50 Lakh, with the top trim crossing Rs 55 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). We will have to wait until 12th February before we get more details about this SUV.
