Powertrain

Globally, the new-gen Duster is available with a range of powertrain options, including turbo-petrol and mild hybrid. However, for India, Renault is likely to focus initially on petrol engines only, possibly with both manual or a CVT automatic gearbox. We expect it to be offered with the popular 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine which powers the entry level Mercedes, a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine, or a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine. On the other hand, sources have now confirmed that the SUV will also be offered with a strong hybrid powertrain. Globally, the Duster comes with a 1.6-litre NA petrol engine (92bhp), which is paired with a 1.2 kWh battery pack & a 47bhp motor. Together, the engine produces 138bhp of power.

With the bold design, tech and expected powertrain options, it aims to challenge its segment rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Tata Sierra, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Volkswagen Taigun. Will Renault’s classic SUV nameplate reclaim its place at the top of the mid-size segment? We’ll find out soon!
