Toyota Innova Crysta To Be Discontinued – Why?

The Innova was first introduced in 2005 and has had a massive fan following ever since it came to India. Even today, it is one of the go-to choices when choosing a reliable and premium 7-seater. Unfortunately, Toyota has now decided that it will discontinue the Innova Crysta in the near future. This decision follows the upcoming CAFE 3 norms, which will supposedly be even more stringent than before. Toyota’s solid and reliable diesel engine will be under fire due to these norms, due to high emissions. In fact, the Innova Crysta was likely to be discontinued in 2025 itself, but due to public demand, Toyota decided to prolong the Crysta’s presence in the market.

There are chances that Fortuner’s diesel engine may also face issues in the near future. Following this decision on the Innova Crysta, Toyota will push the Innova Hycross and its strong hybrid technology to earn more “super credits” under CAFE rules. It is unlikely that Toyota will be able to replace the Innova Crysta with some other MPV, especially considering the massive fan base. It will be interesting to see whether Toyota will bring in a new MPV to fill this void. Toyota will likely discontinue the Innova Crysta around 2027.

Why Do People Love The Innova Crysta?

The Innova, since its arrival in India, has become quite popular mainly because of its reliability and practicality. The Innova has always been a ‘no-nonsense choice’ for many over the years, and the Crysta has lived up to that standard. The MPV has a sleek yet imposing design, a premium cabin and decent performance. Plus, the bulletproof nature of Toyota’s diesel engines has always been the USP, and the Crysta is the people’s favourite for the same reason. The performance, running costs, comfort and practicality made the Crysta a great choice for many. Unfortunately, the MPV will soon cease to exist, leaving a massive gap in the market.
