The Isuzu V-Cross is a pickup truck that is known for its sturdiness and robust build. It is more of a utility vehicle and hence was not seen on the streets as much. This makes the list of overpriced cars due to its very hefty price tag. When it was first launched in 2016, it had a price tag of Rs 17.10 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). A brand new V-Cross top model is priced at Rs 37.79 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The abrupt price increase after the BS6 update has affected V-Cross sales. Even in 2020, the V-Cross ranged from Rs 20.04 Lakh to Rs 24.12 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Jeep Compass

Jeep CompassJeep Compass

Jeep made its official debut in India with the Compass in 2017. And it was an instant hit for the brand. Indians showed immense love towards the Compass as it was the sole SUV in its segment. One of the positives of the Compass has always been the ride & handling balance. However, in 2019, Tata launched the Harrier in the same segment. Compared to the Compass, the Harrier was bigger, spacious, had excellent ride quality and was more affordable. The Indian SUV then never looked behind and Tata kept on updating the Harrier, making it only better. On the other hand, Jeep also kept on updating the Compass with new goodies. However, in the process, the Compass became an expensive product. Today, the Jeep SUV is priced between Rs 21.68 lakh & Rs 37.32 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). At the same time, the Harrier is priced between Rs 16.72 lakh & Rs 30.13 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). And even today, the Harrier is hands down a VFM offering.

The only talking point of the Compass is AWD, which is today compensated by the Harrier.ev. And if we talk about the Harrier.ev, the SUV is leagues ahead in terms of technology than the diesel Harrier. So yes, it makes sense to avoid the Compass and rather opt for the other mentioned SUVs.

Overpriced Cars – Innova Crysta

The Toyota Innova is a legendary nameplate in India, having been around for a long time. Toyota currently sells the Toyota Innova Hycross and the Innova Crysta. The Innova Crysta has never received a proper update and carries over most of its components into the new one. The Crysta is a comfortable 7-seater with ample performance and great reliability.

The Innova Crysta was first launched in 2016 with a price tag ranging from Rs 16.65 Lakh to Rs 28.79 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The current Crysta has a price tag ranging from Rs 24.91 Lakh to Rs 33.50 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Now, you may say that the price hike is not massive. However, the Innova Crysta misses out on most features that the new cars have, which simply does not justify the new price tag. If it got timely feature updates, the price tag would be easily justified.

Citroen C5 Aircross

4. Citroen C5 Aircross4. Citroen C5 Aircross

The Citroen C5 Aircross is a compact 5-seater SUV, which is also one of the most overpriced cars on sale in India. The C5 Aircross is just as spacious as a Tata Harrier with a similar wheelbase and length dimensions. The Citroen C5 Aircross has a price tag of Rs 48.40 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). It is not the most feature-loaded SUV, nor is it the most powerful SUV. At a similar price, you could buy yourself a brand new Hyundai Ioniq 5. If you wish to save some money, you can buy a Hyundai Tucson and save Rs 9-10 Lakh. It is not a bad car and offers good space, a comfortable cabin and a few features, but it does not justify the price tag.

Finally, it is yet another Jeep SUV that you should avoid buying. It is the Wrangler – a hardcore off-road SUV! Similar to the Compass, the Wrangler is an expensive product, priced between Rs 76.73 lakh & Rs 81.23 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The Wrangler is known for its off-road capabilities & impressive road presence. Its old-school design language has also been a talking point. However, by spending a significantly smaller amount, you can get yourself an equally capable off-road SUV. Yes, you guessed it right! We are talking about the Mahindra Thar Roxx! Yet another Indian SUV that makes a lot more sense to buy instead of a Jeep! Priced between Rs 14.84 lakh & Rs 27.14 lakh (on-road, Mumbai), the Thar Roxx is a capable off-roader, draws design inspiration from the Wrangler, and keeps passengers comfortable. That said, Jeep is yet to establish the service network that Mahindra or even Tata has today.
