Problem Solved!

In 2022, Tata Motors revealed the Avinya brand for the first time in India. The highlight of the event was the Avinya platform. The brand proudly announced that upcoming Avinya products would be based on JLR’s EMA platform. This was the second instance where Tata Motors would be sharing a JLR platform for its SUV – the first was the Land Rover’s D8 platform that was shared with the Harrier & the Safari. Coming to the EMA platform, the first Avinya based on that was expected to hit showrooms by the end of 2025. However, the brand had to postpone the launch due to a major hurdle!

Tata Motors & JLR signed an MOU for sharing the EMA platform. This decision could have been taken after JLR planned to go local with a new plant in Tamil Nadu. However, JLR’s delays in local manufacturing kept pushing back the plans, forcing Tata Motors to consider other alternatives. This also included a low-cost version of the EMA platform, similar to OMEGA Architecture, which is a low-cost version of the D8 platform.

Amidst all the chaos, the duo have finally likely found the solution! According to sources, Tata Motors is working on 5 new Avinya models, codenamed as – P1, P2, P3, P4 & P5. Among these, the brand has officially confirmed two models and all of these will be based on the EMA platform! It is also reported that the first model to enter production in the coming months will be manufactured at Tata’s Sanand plant, with launch confirmed for the end of 2026. Whereas the other SUVs could be manufactured in the Tamil Nadu plant. And no, it won’t be an alternative or a low-cost version, as it will be shared with future JLR models.

Why Is EMA So Important?

One of the exciting things about this platform is that it is engineered around the battery, enabling a flat-floor interior. Alongside, it is also eligible for a commendable 5-star safety rating and ultra-fast charging tech. So, there isn’t any compromise on safety or tech with this new platform. However, this platform might slightly increase product costs. And so, expect the Avinya range to start above the Harrier.ev, which currently tops out at Rs 31.46 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
