New Toyota SUV – Another Badge Engineering Product

Maruti has revealed two new SUVs this year, and likely they will have their Toyota version too. While it is not known if Toyota will really look forward to having its own version of Victoris. But, the Japanese automaker will surely launch its own version of the Maruti e Vitara, called as Toyota Urban Cruiser Electric. And this model will be the torch bearer for the brand in the coming year.

The brand is yet to confirm the launch date for this new model. But the industry sources suggest this electric SUV might be launched in the coming month i.e January 2026. Again, as Maruti has not confirmed the prices for the e Vitara, it becomes difficult to assume the pricing of Toyota’s version. According to us, it can be priced between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 24 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). At this pricing, this model somewhat makes sense as it will rival against the likes of Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, Vinfast VF 7 and others.

What Else?

Now this Toyota SUV will be a rebadged version of Maruti’s SUV, it will carry the same feature list and interior finish. However, one can easily distinguish both the SUVs from outside, not only because of the logo – but due to several design differentials.

The cabin features the same multi-layer design with twin-floating displays for instrument cluster and infotainment, and even gets the same new two-spoke flat bottom steering wheel from the e Vitara, but with a Toyota logo, obviously.

Talking about the features, some popular ones include a twin screen setup, Level 2 ADAS suite, JBL premium audio system, wireless charging pad, sunroof, ventilated front seats, sliding and reclining rear seats, powered driver seat and more. Now, the SUV is also expected to be safe and offer 6-airbags as standard, while the top trims might also offer 7-airbags.

The Toyota SUV will be offering the same battery spec from the Maruti version – a 49 kWh and a 61 kWh. The automaker has not yet revealed details specifying the range, but has claimed that the latter one will offer a range of more than 500 km on a single charge. However, there has been no confirmation about the model getting an AWD configuration at present.
