The Toyota Innova has always been India’s go-to 7-seater since its launch in 2005. Over the years, the Innova has evolved into a more premium offering, as seen with the Innova Crysta. Toyota Innova Crysta – Value For Money No More?

The Innova Crysta has been a fan favourite, thanks to its immense performance, amazing design and top-notch reliability. However, over the years, the MPV has become quite expensive – now priced between Rs 23.18 Lakh to Rs 31.62 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). However, has the Innova Crysta gotten more features and tech over the years to justify this cost? Well no. But still, the Crysta is quite an impressive package even today. So if you don’t want to spend Rs 31 Lakh on an Innova, we have a solution for you!
Buy a used Innova! That’s right. We found a top-spec 2021 Toyota Innova ZX priced at Rs 23.50 Lakh – essentially at the price of a base model new Innova Crysta. With this used Innova, you get almost the same features as the new one, and you get the powerful 2.8-litre diesel instead of the new 2.4-litre diesel mill, which is the only diesel you can have now. And the best part is that the used one does not get the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), which the new Innova Crysta with the 2.4-litre diesel engine gets. The DPF can become a headache to look after and could prove to be costly. Another major difference with the new model is the omission of the automatic gearbox unit; you only get a manual one. For some, it’s a major turnoff.

Why Buy The Used Toyota Innova?

Well, for almost Rs 10 Lakh less, you essentially get the same car, with better performance. The 2.8-litre diesel is known for its enthralling performance, especially with the automatic. The 2.8-litre diesel produces 172bhp and 360Nm of torque along with a 6-speed AT. The new engine does not offer an automatic gearbox, which is a shame as it takes away the convenience factor from the driving experience. The Innova’s USP has always been reliability. The example we found has only been driven just over 46,000 kms, which for the Innova is like a warm-up lap. The 2.8-litre engine, also seen in the Fortuner, has proven to be one of the best and most reliable, known to run for years.
The Innova can run for lakhs of kilometres with just basic maintenance. Plus, the spares are cheaper, and most mechanics can repair the car if you face any issues. And the best part is that the 2021 model we found has most of the features of a brand-new Innova Crysta. Features include an 8-inch touchscreen, leather seats, driving modes, and a few more. Last but not least, you also have the added advantage of resale value. And if you buy the example we found at Rs 23.50 Lakh and drive it for a couple of years, you’ll still be able to sell it for around Rs 20 Lakh!
So, at the price of a base model brand-new Innova Crysta, you could get a more powerful and reliable Innova, which will likely offer a better ownership experience. So, which one would you pick?
