Volkswagen had a rather quiet 2025 and released only 2 cars – the Tiguan R-Line and the Golf GTI. But these cars couldn’t make a significant impact on VW’s sales figures. And now, Volkswagen wish to change that and is set to unveil 5 new cars this year. The German manufacturer announced it will launch 3 SUVs, a sedan, and a hatchback by the end of this year. Here are the 5 cars that we expect could be launched this year.

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line

This is the first new SUV to roll off the VW production floor. The Tayron will be launched by March 2026. It will be Volkswagen’s flagship 7-seater SUV and will compete against the Fortuner, the upcoming MG Majestor, and the Skoda Kodiaq RS. The Tayron features Volkswagen’s latest design language with the sleek headlights and connected taillights.
The feature list is pretty impressive as well and includes a plethora of features like panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, 15-inch infotainment screen, wireless charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 12.9-inch digital driver’s display and much more. The powertrain options are limited: you only get it with a 2.0-litre TSI (201 bhp & 320 Nm), and a 7-speed DSG is standard. Interestingly, you get the Tayron R-line with AWD as standard.
The Tayron R-Line is expected to be priced around Rs 55 Lakh – Rs 60 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). This will be Volkswagen’s second-ever 7-seater in India after the Tiguan All-Space.

Volkswagen Tera

This will be Volkswagen’s first sub-4m SUV and is based on the Skoda Kylaq. The Tera is already on sale in global markets, which lets us have a look at what the Indian-spec would look like. The Tera features a SUV-like stance, along with sharp cuts and creases, to mimic the look of some of its bigger SUVs. Interestingly, the global spec Tera is slightly over 4m in length, and the Indian spec will feature smaller dimensions to take advantage of the sub-4m tax leeway.
Inside the cabin, features like a 10-inch infotainment screen, a sunroof, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ventilated and powered front seats, an 8-inch digital driver’s display, wireless charging, etc., are included. While its sibling, the Kylaq, misses out on an ADAS suite, we expect the Tera to come equipped with ADAS on higher trims to get an edge over its competitors.
Powertrain options will be identical to those from the Skoda Kylaq. A 1.0-litre TSI (114 bhp and 178 Nm) will be standard across all trims. As for transmission options, you can choose a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter.
The Tera is expected to start at Rs 9 Lakh, with the top variant priced at Rs 16 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Rumours suggest that the Tera will be launched in the second half of 2026.

Taigun Facelift

With the Skoda Kushaq recently revised, the Taigun facelift seems inevitable. Aesthetically, it will get a few touchups, like updated headlights and taillights, and a refreshed front end, to keep it fresh. The outgoing Taigun’s cabin has started to age, and a revamp will be necessary. Features like a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a 10-inch infotainment screen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, and ventilated and powered front seats are expected with the facelift. Massaging rear seats are also expected. Furthermore, we can expect this VW SUV to offer the ADAS suite in its pack.
The powertrain from the outgoing Taigun will be carried over with the facelift. The 2 engine options are: 1.0-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI. The gearbox options may change, with the 6-speed AT being ditched in favour of the 8-speed one. Alongside the 8-speed torque converter (on 1.0-litre trims), a 7-speed DSG (on 1.5-litre trims), and a 6-speed manual (on 1.0-litre trims), a 6-speed manual (on 1.0-litre trims) will be offered.
The outgoing Taigun starts at Rs 13.51 lakh, with the top model costing Rs 22.70 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). We expect a price hike of Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000 if Volkswagen were to add it with vital features like an ADAS suite. Speculation suggests that we could see the facelift by mid-2026.

Virtus Facelift

The Virtus was Volkswagen’s best-selling car last year. The German automaker will try to update the Virtus to keep the sales flowing. We expect major cosmetic changes along with minor updates to the equipment list. Sharper headlights and taillights, a revised grille, and updated front and rear bumpers are among the changes we could see with the facelift.
With the facelift, we could see features such as a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, a 10-inch infotainment display, ventilated and powered front seats, etc. If Volkswagen decides to add an ADAS suite to the Taigun, we could very well see it on the Virtus facelift as well.
As expected, we could see the facelift get similar powertrain options to the Kushaq. A 1.0-litre TSI and a 1.5-litre TSI will be offered, along with an 8-speed AT (on 1.0-litre trims), 7-speed DSG (on 1.5-litre trims) and a 6-speed manual (on 1.0-litre trims) transmission options.
The current Virtus range starts at Rs. 12.43 Lakh, and the top trim costs Rs 22.48 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). With the facelift, Volkswagen is expected to increase prices by around Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000, as with the Taigun facelift. The Virtus facelift will be unveiled around the same time as the Taigun facelift, which is by mid-2026.

Golf GTI

Much to Volkswagen’s surprise, the Golf GTI got a strong response despite its high price tag. Out of the initial batch of 150 units, Volkswagen sold 138 in the first month of launch. Volkswagen are suspected to be planning to launch the second batch of the Golf GTI in India. The second batch will feature the same Mark 8.5 Golf GTI and is expected to be mechanically and aesthetically identical to the first batch.
The feature list for the Golf GTI includes a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, wireless charging, Level 2 ADAS, 7 airbags, a panoramic sunroof, etc. As for the engine options, you get it with a 2.0-litre TSI (265 bhp & 370 Nm), which is mated to a 7-speed DSG.
The second batch of Golf-GTIs is expected to be launched by early to mid- 2026. This batch will be smaller than the first one, as only 100 units will be available. This hot hatchback costs a whopping Rs 65.41 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). However, with the new tariffs in place, we could see the second batch of Golf GTIs to cost between Rs 50 Lakh and Rs 55 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). So if you missed out on the first batch of the Golf GTI, this could be the perfect chance for you.
