Affordable CNG SUVs – Tata Punch

Tata Punch is the most affordable factory-fitted CNG SUV available. The CNG version of this micro-SUV ranges between Rs 7.65 lakh and Rs 9.30 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). The Punch comes with Tata’s iCNG tech, which doesn’t hamper the boot-space. 

CNG models of Tata Punch are powered with a 1.2-litre NA petrol engine (71bhp & 103Nm) paired with a 5-speed MT, delivering a mileage of 26.99kmpl (ARAI). However, owners have said that the Punch CNG delivers a real-life mileage between 22-24kmpl depending on driving behaviour.

Hyundai Exter

Hyundai is also offering a factory fitted dual-CNG kit with the Exter. The CNG equipped Exter is currently available at a price between Rs 7.88 lakh and 10.03 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Again as it gets Hyundai’s HyCNG tech, the cylinders don’t affect the boot-space. 

Hyundai Exter CNG is powered by 1.2-litre petrol engine (67bhp & 95Nm), mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The CNG powered Exter delivers a claimed mileage of 27.1kmpl (ARAI). However, the real-life mileage is expected to be around 23-24kmpl.

Affordable CNG SUVs – Maruti Fronx

The next on the list is the Maruti Fronx. The Fronx CNG is currently priced between Rs 8.83 lakh and Rs 9.73 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). While the other two SUVs on the list offer the dual CNG kit, the Fronx comes with a big cylinder in the boot – that might hamper the boot space. 

Maruti Fronx CNG variants are powered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine (76bhp & 98Nm) mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox.The CNG variants deliver a claimed mileage of 28.51kmpl (ARAI), while the real-life mileage claimed by owner varies between 24-25kmpl depending on driving style.

Tata Nexon

Want a big SUV? You might find the Tata Nexon a perfect match. The Nexon’s CNG variants currently carry a price tag that ranges between Rs 9.22 lakh and 15.44 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). 

The Tata Nexon CNG is powered with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine (98bhp & 170Nm) mated to a 6-speed MT. The Tata Nexon is the first turbo engine powered CNG SUV available in the country, that delivers performance and better mileage. The Nexon CNG offers a claimed mileage of 24kmpl (ARAI), while owners claim that it delivers a mileage between 19-21kmpl, depending on one’s driving.

Affordable CNG SUVs – Maruti Brezza

Lastly, we have the Maruti Brezza. The Brezza’s CNG variants are currently priced between Rs 10.48 lakh & 13.28 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). That said, it is the most expensive SUV of today’s lot. 

The Maruti Brezza CNG is powered with a 1.5-litre petrol engine (86bhp & 121Nm) paired with a 5-speed MT gearbox unit. The Brezza CNG’s claimed mileage is 25.5kmpl (ARAI), while the owners register a real-life mileage between 20-23kmpl.
